Image
The Facebook page of ANC 24/7 is asking for its reader's suggestion on how to solve Metro Manila's traffic problem. This got me thinking, "what is the best way to solve Metro Manila's traffic problem?" It's easy to make suggestions, what's hard is the implementation and the cost of implementation. So what is the the best way to solve Metro Manila's traffic problem and the most cost effective solution? Punitive Fines Add caption First of all, any implementation will definitely cost money, a lot of money. The cause of the traffic mess is the people themselves so it's only right that those causing the traffic problem should be fined and the fine should hurt. That way, the fines will pay for the cost of enforcing the law. The fines should start at P500 and goes up every week if you don't pay it within 15 days. To enforce this and prevent people from ignoring the fine. It will be tied to their driver's license or car registr

Computer History Museum Makes Historic MS-DOS and Word for Windows Source Code Available to the Public

Mountain View, Ca—March 25, 2014— The Computer History Museum (CHM) announced today that it has, with permission from Microsoft Corporation, made available original source code for two historic programs: MS-DOS, the 1982 "Disk Operating System" for IBM-compatible personal computers, and Word for Windows, the 1990 Windows-based version of their word processor. IBM went outside the company for many hardware and software components of their 1981 personal computer. Though most vendors were kept in the dark about the project, code-named “Chess,” IBM developed a unique relationship between their Boca Raton-based team and Microsoft, then a small company based in Seattle. Microsoft, which was providing the BASIC language interpreter, agreed to also supply an operating system. Without their own operating system already in place, they licensed a product from nearby Seattle Computer Products and worked closely with IBM to make the changes they wanted. It shipped as "PC-DOS"

Banco De Oro's Singit Queens

Image
I saw this on my Facebook feed. I thought I'd share. Photos of several “VIP” BDO employees taken around 7:30 in the morning on March 24, 2014 at the Quezon Ave shuttle terminal going to Ortigas. What’s so special about them? Well, people who regularly take the shuttle to Ortigas at the Quezon Ave terminal call them “The Singit Queens”. And I can see why given the fact that I saw them in action numerous times. My wife and I recently begun taking the shuttle going to our respective offices in Ortigas, and most the convenient terminal for us is the Quezon Ave terminal. The first few days were quite normal. The queue was long but not as long as with the other terminals. Then recently, my wife and I started noticing these BDO employees. At first there were only one of them in the queue, but after several minutes another will come and join the 1st one not minding the other people who waited for several minutes in line. Ok lang sana kung isa lang ang sisingit, but then, after seve

BIR's Disgusting Ad Against Doctors

Image
The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) in its effort to increase tax collection puts out ads and press release identifying sectors of society who they believe are not paying proper taxes. They do this by shaming people and business through these ads. On their latest ad, they targeted doctors by showing them as burdens to society for not paying their share of taxes. The image is a doctor making over a million Pesos being carried on the shoulder of a lowly teacher making much less but paying full tax. Based on this ad, the BIR is saying that the doctors and other professionals are the burden to society because they don't pay their taxes. Apparently, the hundreds and thousands of pesos they spent learning their profession and countless hours of study and upgrading they do every year to save and improve people's lives are worth nothing. Maybe there is a reason people don't like paying their taxes, because all they see is endless traffic, bad road, bad government and the
