3 Cost Effective Ways to Solve Metro Manila's Traffic Problem

Image
The Facebook page of ANC 24/7 is asking for its reader's suggestion on how to solve Metro Manila's traffic problem. This got me thinking, "what is the best way to solve Metro Manila's traffic problem?" It's easy to make suggestions, what's hard is the implementation and the cost of implementation. So what is the the best way to solve Metro Manila's traffic problem and the most cost effective solution? Punitive Fines Add caption First of all, any implementation will definitely cost money, a lot of money. The cause of the traffic mess is the people themselves so it's only right that those causing the traffic problem should be fined and the fine should hurt. That way, the fines will pay for the cost of enforcing the law. The fines should start at P500 and goes up every week if you don't pay it within 15 days. To enforce this and prevent people from ignoring the fine. It will be tied to their driver's license or car registr

'Naked Gun,' 'Airplane' star Leslie Nielsen dies at 84

From 660 News Radio and The Associated Press. LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Leslie Nielsen had the sombredemeanour and stone-serious face that were just right for dramatic roles. They proved even better for comedy. "Surely you can't be serious," an airline passenger says to Nielsen in "Airplane!" the 1980 hit that turned the actor from dramatic leading man to comic star. "I am serious," Nielsen replies. "And don't call me Shirley." The line was probably his most famous — and a perfect distillation of his career. Nielsen, the dramatic lead in "Forbidden Planet" and "The Poseidon Adventure" and the bumbling detective in "The Naked Gun" comedies, died on Sunday in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. He was 84. The Canada native died from complications from pneumonia at a hospital near his home, surrounded by his wife, Barbaree, and friends, his agent John S. Kelly said in a statement. A Story of Appreciation

One young academically excellent person went to apply for a managerial position in a big company. He passed the first interview, the director did the last interview, made the last decision. The director discovered from the CV that the youth's academic achievements were excellent all the way, from the secondary school until the postgraduate research, never had a year when he did not score. The director asked, "Did you obtain any scholarships in school?" the youth answered "none". The director asked, "Was it your father who paid for your school fees?" The youth answered, "My father passed away when I was one year old, it was my mother who paid for my school fees." The director asked, "Where did your mother work?" The youth answered, "My mother worked as clothes cleaner." The director requested the youth to show his hands. The youth showed a pair of hands that were smooth and perfect. The director asked, "Have you ever h

Manny Pacquiao - From fight rings to the people’s House

From the Philippine Online Chronicles . Would the legendary boxing champion from the Philippines perform better in public service as a neophyte Congressman? First-termer Rep. Emmanuel “Manny” Dapidran Pacquiao, elected Sarangani representative last May, is ready for his much anticipated fight against Mexican American boxer Antonio "Tijuana Tornado" Margarito on November 13 in Dallas, Texas. At the same time, Pacquiao seems to be keen on his responsibilities as a public servant. Pacquiao has been in office for only three months but he has already authored/co-authored at least 21 bills and resolutions while learning the ropes as a member of the House of Representatives. He is a member for the majority in 11 committees and is a vice chairperson of the Committees on Millennium Development Goals and Youth and Sports Development. He immediately took up various issues in Congress, such as: human rights, health, education, national security and concerns of youth, women and other marg

How I Run My Business On My iPhone

The iPhone is such a wonderful device that I can't imagine how I was able to live without it for the longest time. The new iPhone 4 is the first iPhone I ever owned and all I can say is...wow! I'm in the consulting business and before the iPhone came out, I used to to carry a ton of stuff. A laptop, a cellphone and a PDA. For the cellphone, I've always used a Nokia but I never used a high end Nokia phone. I went from the Nokia 3360 to the 8860, Sony Ericsson and then the Nokia 3500. They all worked great as cellphones, but lacking in terms of internet connectivity or use as a PDA. On the PDA side, I went from carrying a paper based calendar to the Palm Pilot, to the Palm V and then finally to the HP iPAQ. The best of the bunch was always the Palm Pilot or the Palm V until Palm pretty much failed with the development of the Palm OS. I went to the HP iPAQ on the feature that it included a web browser and WiFi connectivity. Sad to say, it was all just a promise. It worked grea

Bad Words

Balat Sibuyas

Here's an ABS-CBN report on the latest uproar Filipinos are making about Korean actress Lee Da Hae making fun of Filipino accents. As if the Philippines doesn't have more pressing problems. Even something as simple as this, people get up in arms angry about it. We shouldn't take ourselves too seriously. People getting so angry to the point that they call her racist? Racist? Really? For making funny accents? Have you seen fellow Filipinos make fun of Manny Pacquiao's accent? I don't really see why Filipinos should get angry if she's making a funny accent, I don't speak Korean so I don't know if they actually said Filipino accent. But even if they did, so what? Why should we get angry about a joke? Why do we take ourselves too seriously? Why are we "balat sibuyas"?

What's Harming P-Noy

Have you heard about the faux pas created by Mai Mislang's Tweet when she was part of the delagation of PNoy in Vietnam? After Vietnamese President Nguyen Minh Triet hosted a state banquet, Mai Tweeted "The wine sucks" and "Sorry pero walang pogi rito sa Vietnam". I don't know about you, but as part of the official delegation, I would think that these people would be more careful about what they say in public. Facebook, Twitter and all these other social networking sites is both a boon and a bane depending on how you use them. It's great that the public gets to know right away what's happening first hand. On the other hand, without proper protocol or control it can lead to a diplomatic incident. Based on what's been happening since P-Noy became President is that the people surrounding him are the ones that causing a lot of harm. And you know what's the worst part about this?
