3 Cost Effective Ways to Solve Metro Manila's Traffic Problem

The Facebook page of ANC 24/7 is asking for its reader's suggestion on how to solve Metro Manila's traffic problem.

This got me thinking, "what is the best way to solve Metro Manila's traffic problem?" It's easy to make suggestions, what's hard is the implementation and the cost of implementation. So what is the the best way to solve Metro Manila's traffic problem and the most cost effective solution?

Punitive Fines
First of all, any implementation will definitely cost money, a lot of money. The cause of the traffic mess is the people themselves so it's only right that those causing the traffic problem should be fined and the fine should hurt. That way, the fines will pay for the cost of enforcing the law.
The fines should start at P500 and goes up every week if you don't pay it within 15 days. To enforce this and prevent people from ignoring the fine. It will be tied to their driver's license or car registration. They cannot renew their d…

Willie Revillame and Willing Willie DID NOT ABUSE Jan-Jan according to his Parents

Willie Revillame defended his actions on his show saying that he did not know what 6 year old Jan-Jan's talents were. He that he did not abuse the kid and that his staff were the ones who auditioned the kid.

He even went on to say that the country has so much problem like the 3 drug mules and corruption, why people would even worry about a little thing like Jan-Jan's dance.

He even had Jan-Jan's parents come to the show to explain their side.

Of course, with matching sad music.

What are you thoughts?

1-Foot-10-Inch Filipino Teen Soon May Be Named World's Shortest Man Ever

The 2-foot-2.41-inch Khagendra Thapa Magar may have a short reign as the world's shortest man. After attaining the title late last year, the 18-year-old Nepalese man may soon lose it.

Guinness World Records told AOL Weird News that a new contender is ready to challenge the diminutive title holder.

Junrey Balawing, 17, hails from the Philippines and claims to be 1 foot 10 inches tall -- almost 4.3 inches shorter than Magar -- and just shy of being the smallest man ever. "A doctor has not yet measured and verified Junrey Balawing's height so at this time, Khagendra is still the record holder," a Guinness rep told AOL We News.

Craig Glenday, editor-in-chief of Guinness World Records, said if Balawing measures up, he could make a permanent mark on mankind.

Thoughts On The Willing Willie Show With 6 Year Old Jan-Jan

I've been thinking a lot about the Willing Willie show where 6 year old Jan-Jan was made to dance like a male stripper.

To be honest, I don't expect much from a show with Willie Revillame, all his shows are just about throwing money around degrading people. Fine, if people are willing and able to make a decision themselves to do that, that's fine with me. But subjecting a 6 year old boy with obviously no choice in the matter is a new low.

And the fact that the boy was crying while dancing did not even register to anyone on the show that maybe they should put a stop to it? Willie even said that the boy was crying was like the movie "Burlesque Queen" where the star was dancing and crying because she did not have a choice in the matter and will do anything to feed her family.

Wasn't that already a queue that maybe it was exploitation?

What I find to be truly horrific is the lack of response from the sponsors. These shows do not exist without sponsors. Do these spons…

DSWD Sec. Dinky Soliman writes to MVP Re: Child Abuse in Willieng Willie

March 28, 2011

ABC Development Corporation

Dear Mr. Pangilinan:

This is with regard to the 12 March 2011 episode of your show “Willing Willie”, which was brought to my attention by several concerned citizens and groups. In the said episode, a six year-old boy named Jan-Jan Estrada was made to repeatedly perform dance moves usually done by adult dancers in indecent shows. The poor child was in tears and looked scared the entire time, as show host Willie Revillame poked fun at him and the audience laughed and cheered.

Under Republic Act No.7610, also known as “Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act”, the term “child abuse” includes the following acts: “psychological and physical abuse, neglect, cruelty, sexual abuse and emotional maltreatment,” and “any act by deeds or words which debases, degrades or demeans the intrinsic worth and dignity of the child as a human being.”

Given that definition, it is unmistakable that …

6 Year Old Jan-Jan Macho Dance on Willie Revillame's Show

I saw this video of 6 year old Jan-Jan on Willie Revillame's show Willing Willie. The boy was dancing like a "Macho Dancer" (male stripper). To be honest, I had to pause it several times because I cannot for the life of me watch this young boy do what just did.

First of all, this boy's parents should be shot. I'm sorry, I do not normally swear on my post, but what the fuck were these people thinking? Who in their right minds would teach a 6 year old boy to macho dance? And why would they even subject this boy to this kind of embarrassment?

Secondly, why did Willie Revillame or his producers even let this boy do what he just did? Did you even see Jan-Jan's face as he was dancing? He was crying! And his aunt was even happy about it? I mean, I can understand about the need for the money, but no amount of money is worth destroying your dignity.

You may think it's funny because it's just a young boy and he may eventually forget about it. But how would anyone …

Strong quake in Myanmar kills more than 60

YANGON, Myanmar -- (UPDATE 2) A strong earthquake that toppled homes in northeastern Myanmar has killed more than 60 people, and there were fears Friday the toll would mount as conditions in more remote areas became known.

The Thursday night quake, measured at a magnitude 6.8 by the US Geological Survey, was centered just north of the town Tachileik in the mountains along the Thai border, but was felt hundreds of miles (kilometers) away in the Thai capital Bangkok and Vietnamese capital Hanoi.

Myanmar state radio announced Friday that 65 people had been killed and 111 injured in the quake, but was updating the total frequently. It said that 244 houses, 14 Buddhist monasteries and nine government buildings were damaged.

Elizabeth Taylor Dies at 79

LOS ANGELES – Elizabeth Taylor, the violet-eyed film goddess whose sultry screen persona, stormy personal life and enduring fame and glamour made her one of the last of the classic movie stars and a template for the modern celebrity, died Wednesday at age 79.

She was surrounded by her four children when she died of congestive heart failure at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where she had been hospitalized for about six weeks, said publicist Sally Morrison.

"My Mother was an extraordinary woman who lived life to the fullest, with great passion, humor, and love," her son, Michael Wilding, said in a statement.

"We know, quite simply, that the world is a better place for Mom having lived in it. Her legacy will never fade, her spirit will always be with us, and her love will live forever in our hearts."

"We have just lost a Hollywood giant," said Elton John, a longtime friend of Taylor. "More importantly, we have lost an incredible human being."

Pacquiao to battle Mayweather–in court

LAS VEGAS, Nevada—Two of boxing’s biggest stars—Filipino ring idol Manny Pacquiao and unbeaten US boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. will fight, after all.

But they will have their gloves off and the fight will be in court.

US District Judge Larry Hicks on Monday set the stage for the legal joust when he denied a motion by Mayweather to dismiss a defamation suit filed against him and others by boxing’s pound-for-pound king.

Hicks ruled the defamation suit can proceed because there is sufficient evidence of malicious acts in accusing Pacquiao of being a dope cheat.

2012 The End?

Comet Elenin has arrived and is heading towards earth. It has aligned twice with earth and the sun and on each occasion coincided with one of the most powerful earthquakes in history shifting the earth's axis 8 cm the first time and 25 cm the second. It will pass between earth and the sun later this year. Is it a comet? or a brown dwarf?

Here's the date from NASA tracking Comet Elenin.

Some say this is not a comet, but actually Nibiru or the twelfth planet or Planet X. It has a highly elliptical orbit around the sun and takes it out way beyond Pluto. It is said that Nibiru takes 3,600 years to complete one orbit and was said to be last seen around 160 BC. Some speculates that Nibiru could actually be the Star of Bethlehem which was seen 2000 years ago.

Scary isn't it? I guess only time will tell if this is real.

Banco Filipino Bankrupt, Place Under Receivership

From GMA News Online.

(Updated 9:53 p.m.) The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) on Thursday ordered the closure of Banco Filipino Savings and Mortgage Bank and placed it under the receivership of state-run Philippine Deposit Insurance Corp. (PDIC), saying its liabilities topped its assets by P8.4 billion.

In a press conference late Thursday, BSP Deputy Gov. Nestor Espenilla Jr. said the central bank's seven-man Monetary Board decided to place Banco Filipino under the receivership of PDIC since it was no longer paying its liabilities in the ordinary course of business.

"Banco Filipino cannot continue in business without involving probable losses to its depositors and creditors," Espenilla told reporters at the central bank.

Based on some reports, the situation could be getting into Chernobyl type of an accident. With Japan being a densely population country, millions of people could be affected.

Don’t fall for ‘radiation’ hoax, brush up on geography

From the Philippine Daily Inquirer.

MANILA, Philippines—Better brush up on geography to prevent getting fooled by hoax text messages and information amid the radiation alert in Japan, the country’s chief volcanologist said Tuesday.

“It is important for us to go back to what we've learned in Araling Panlipunan, particularly geography so that we won't be alarmed by such text messages and we can avoid the unnecessary worry,” said Renato Solidum Jr., head of the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology.

He said the tsunami alert the Phivolcs raised on the eastern coast of the country following the powerful quake and tsunami that ravaged Japan on Friday, also caused residents in the Philippines' western region to suffer needless panic attacks.

Fear also gripped some parts of the country on Monday following false reports that radioactive fallout from crippled nuclear plants in Japan would reach the Philippines.

The rumors, which circulated through text messages, sent people…

What Does the Japan Earthquake Sound Like?

Micah Frank a sound programmer from Brooklyn created this sonic representation of the Japanese earthquake on March 11, 2011 using Tectonic. It's pretty eerie.

Earthquakes off the east coast of Honshu, Japan - Friday March 11, 2011 by Micah Frank
Tectonic is a realtime seismic analysis and sound synthesis system. Sound is created in realtime by earthquakes as they occur across the globe. A tightly integrated system between Max/MSP, Google Earth and Symbolic Sound’s Kyma processes earthquake data that is translated into sound synthesis parameters. A USGS XML feed is parsed into numerous fields including magnitude, elevation, time of day and geographical coordinates. These data are mapped to synthetic spectrums and processed by granular, aggregate and subtractive synthesis.

Japan's quake updated to magnitude 9.0

From New Scientist.

Seismologists at the US Geological Survey in Menlo Park, California, have just revised their calculations regarding the magnitude of today's quake. They now say it was magnitude 9.0. Already one of the top 10 recorded earthquakes in history, the revision suggests the quake was even more powerful than first thought.

Harold Tobin of the University of Wisconsin-Madison told New Scientist that this figure will probably change again. This is typical in the hours after a large seismic event, as more information becomes available.

Earlier today, it was suggested that the tremor may have occurred along a splay fault - a branch off the main megathrust fault which runs through this area of the Japan trench. If so, that could mean the fault was previously unknown to geologists.

Splay faults tend to break at steeper angles than megathrust quakes, making them highly likely to lead to a large uplift of the seafloor that produces damaging tsunamis such as the one that crashed ash…

No, the “supermoon” didn’t cause the Japanese earthquake

Japan suffered a massive earthquake last night, measuring nearly magnitude 9. This is one of the largest quakes in its history, causing widespread and severe damage. Before I say anything else, I’m greatly saddened by the loss of life in Japan, and I’ll be donating to disaster relief organizations to help them get in there and do what they can to give aid to those in need.

While there isn’t much I can do to directly help the situation in Japan, I do hope I can help mitigate the panic and worry that can happen due to people blaming this earthquake on the so-called "supermoon" — a date when the Moon is especially close to the Earth at the same time it’s full. So let me be extremely clear:

Despite what a lot of people are saying, there is no way this earthquake was caused by the Moon.

Will March 19 'Supermoon' Trigger Natural Disasters?

On March 19, the moon will swing around Earth more closely than it has in the past 18 years, lighting up the night sky from just 221,567 miles (356,577 kilometers) away. On top of that, it will be full. And one astrologer believes it could inflict massive damage on the planet.

Richard Nolle, a noted astrologer who runs the website, has famously termed the upcoming full moon at lunar perigee (the closest approach during its orbit) an "extreme supermoon."

When the moon goes super-extreme, Nolle says, chaos will ensue: Huge storms, earthquakes, volcanoes and other natural disasters can be expected to wreak havoc on Earth. (It should be noted that astrology is not a real science, but merely makes connections between astronomical and mystical events.)

That is culture

This is a great article by Conrado De Quiros in the Philippine Daily Inquirer about our culture of corruption.

An investigation is underway to see if this was merely an isolated incident or had been done by others. “It’s not a mere cheating case,” Mainichi said in an editorial. “The impact of the wrongful use of the Internet, capable of massively sp…

Pagpag: Survival food for the poorest of the poor

From Philippine Online Chronicles.

Have you ever wondered whatever happened to the left-over food you did not finish in fast food restaurants? You may think they would have been thrown away and discarded for good. For sure they are headed to the trash bin after people leave them on the table. But what happens next is something you ought to know. The morsels of unfinished Chicken Joy in Jollibee or the left-over spaghetti in McDonald’s might yet save a family from hunger.

The leftover food stuffs are thrown in a large black plastic bag and collected by a garbage truck. The truck travels towards a garbage dumpsite, either in Payatas in Quezon City or Smokey Mountain in Tondo, Manila. After the truck has dumped the trash in these garbage sites, the leftovers begin to change its nature: from trash to food. Scavengers would swarm on these morsels like they were gadflies, sometimes even fighting over them.. The food we consider trash becomes for them sustenance.

You may think that it is cruel …
