The Facebook page of ANC 24/7 is asking for its reader's suggestion on how to solve Metro Manila's traffic problem. This got me thinking, "what is the best way to solve Metro Manila's traffic problem?" It's easy to make suggestions, what's hard is the implementation and the cost of implementation. So what is the the best way to solve Metro Manila's traffic problem and the most cost effective solution? Punitive Fines Add caption First of all, any implementation will definitely cost money, a lot of money. The cause of the traffic mess is the people themselves so it's only right that those causing the traffic problem should be fined and the fine should hurt. Seems like every blog related to the Philippines has been about the stampede that happened on Saturday, Feb, 4, 2006 at the Ultra for the TV show WOWOWEE.

There are people who says that it shows the true state of the nation and and how desperately poor people are that they will risk their lives to have the chance to win some money.

I have heard from others say that it's complete exploitation of the poor by the networks.

I think Sanlakas president Wilson Fortaleza said it best, "It's not 51 pesos to a dollar. It's 70 lives to the peso."

Whatever it is, it's just sad to see. Whether it's because of poverty or exploitation, things like this should never happen. It can be avoided.

It's not a natural disaster, common sense would tell you that you can't fit 50,000 people in a stadium that can hold 17,000. Common sense would tell you that when you are organizing a large event, things happen. Common sense tells you that you are expecting more people than normal to show up, you should have a contingency plan in the event of an emergency. But then again, I guess common sense is not so common anymore.

Seems like everyone in the Philippines, from the President down to the poorest individual has lost all common sense. But then when you're desperate, common sense is the last thing you'll listen to.
