3 Cost Effective Ways to Solve Metro Manila's Traffic Problem

Image
The Facebook page of ANC 24/7 is asking for its reader's suggestion on how to solve Metro Manila's traffic problem. This got me thinking, "what is the best way to solve Metro Manila's traffic problem?" It's easy to make suggestions, what's hard is the implementation and the cost of implementation. So what is the the best way to solve Metro Manila's traffic problem and the most cost effective solution? Punitive Fines Add caption First of all, any implementation will definitely cost money, a lot of money. The cause of the traffic mess is the people themselves so it's only right that those causing the traffic problem should be fined and the fine should hurt. That way, the fines will pay for the cost of enforcing the law. The fines should start at P500 and goes up every week if you don't pay it within 15 days. To enforce this and prevent people from ignoring the fine. It will be tied to their driver's license or car registr...

Our Current Crop of Potential Presidents

Here are the current crop of people we will be electing in May for President A so called "depressed and mentally unstable" individual who's claim to fame is his name. A poor and swam in garbage individual who's now a billionaire. Who's claim is either true or he's a pathological liar. A womanizing, gambling and convicted plunderer. An articulate lawyer who's claim to fame is being in the GMA administration. A crying, hot-headed, people serving, can do attitude person. A man of God who's money came from his flock like every other "spiritual leader". For Vice President we have. A bitchy, revenge seeking, former TV anchor. A no-nonsense administrator who loves pink fences who think he's gwapo. A former actor who hasn't really been heard or seen during the campaign. A mayor who is said to have enhanced the financial capital of the country that used to be a human rights lawyer which hardly any money but who's net worth has jumped to al...

Sen. Richard Gordon

Here's an interesting piece on Sen. Richard Gordon from the Philippine Daily Inquirer . ====================== During a debate on the Manila campus of De La Salle University , Sen. Richard Gordon waves a thin black and white contraption roughly the size of a notebook. “Kindle,” he shouts. “Here’s a little computer where you can put the entire school curriculum, from Grade 1 to high school to college. Every kid in public school should have one because he who reads, leads,” Gordon exclaimed. Gordon talked about providing the country’s 17 million public school students with the Amazon.com product and raising the quality of education in the process. “The government purchases textbooks for public schools. Oftentimes, these books are full of errors. That’s why we have book scams left and right. Why not get a Kindle for every student, download the accurate, factual books needed for the year, do the same every year. So every school year, we just buy new Kindles for the incoming Grade 1,” h...

Manny (Pacman) Pacquiao's Gen Santos and Boracay Mansions

Image
Stretching from the gate to the front of the main house in Gen San is an extensive driveway. Family members and guests alike get off from their cars on a covered walkway, held up by classic white pillars. The walkway leads to the front door. The wide front yard provides more than enough room for a landscaped garden. It features a fountain and a koi pond. Cream or beige was the color of choice for Manny Pacquiao's two-story, seven-bedroom, 780-square-meter Mediterranean-style house that sits on a 2,300-square-meter lot. This understated hue complements the classic lines and details of the architecture. The red tiles used on the roof are imported from Japan . Flanked by white pillars, paved by tiles from Spain , and illuminated by a bowl pendant chandelier, the main entrance, with its white double front doors, gives guests a hint of the grandness to be expected inside. Manny Pacquiao's expansive backyard in Lagao Village , General Santos City , features a swimming pool in the sha...

Villar: Trouble with hellos

From the Philippine Daily Inquirer . ====================== Sen. Manny Villar called Fe Barin, chair of the Securities and Exchange Commission, and Francis Lim, then president of the Philippine Stock Exchange, many times sometime between May and June 2007, the Philippine Daily Inquirer has learned. But the calls, according to SEC and PSE lawyers and brokers interviewed by the Inquirer on separate occasions, were “too many to be easily dismissed and forgotten.” They couldn’t forget about the calls either, they said, most especially because Villar, then Senate President, wanted the SEC and PSE officials “to throw the exchange rules out the window.” Villar was seeking the release from escrow of about 1.2 billion of the 5.3 billion secondary shares of Vista Land & Lifescapes Inc. in June 2007 so these could be offered both as primary and secondary shares at the same time, or several days apart. The Senate President not only made the calls, he also appeared before SEC and PSE board meet...

Of Elections and Massacre

Image
So yesterday we got news that Justice Secretary Alberto Agra has cleared Gov. Zaldy Ampatuan of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao and his uncle, Maguindanao Vice Gov. Akmad Ampatuan Sr., of the massacre of the 57 people in Maguindanao. Justice Secretary Alberto Agra photo from The Philippine Daily Inquirer . The justice secretary said that their alibi that there were not in Maguindanao at the time of the murder was good enough to drop charges on them. Kind of like saying that GMA did not cheat in the elections because she didn't stuff the ballot herself. Yeah right. When the decision was made, state prosecutors led by Chief State Prosecutor Claro Arellano Monday protested the resolution that Agra issued on the night of April 16 absolving the two Ampatuans and walked out . The decision also led to protests and The National Union of Journalists of the Philippines (NUJP) urged the public to wear black to express “rage and disappointment” over the decision of Justice Secret...

5 minutes management course

Lesson 1: A man is getting into the shower just as his wife is finishing up her shower, when the doorbell rings. The wife quickly wraps herself in a towel and runs downstairs. When she opens the door, there stands Bob, the next-door neighbor. Before she says a word, Bob says, 'I'll give you $800 to drop that towel.' After thinking for a moment, the woman drops her towel and stands naked in front of Bob, after a few seconds, Bob hands her $800 and leaves. The woman wraps back up in the towel and goes back upstairs. When she gets to the bathroom, her husband asks, 'Who was that?' 'It was Bob the next door neighbor,' she replies. 'Great,' the husband says, 'did he say anything about the $800 he owes me?' Moral of the story: If you share critical information pertaining to credit and risk with your shareholders in time, you may be in a position to prevent avoidable exposure. Lesson 2: A priest offered a Nun a lift. She got in and crossed her legs,...

You Have Two Choices In Life

You have two choices in life: You can stay single and be miserable, Or get married and wish you were dead.. At a cocktail party, one woman said to another, 'Aren't you wearing your wedding ring on the wrong finger?' 'Yes, I am. I married the wrong man..' A lady inserted an ad in the classifieds: 'Husband Wanted'. Next day she received a hundred letters. They all said the same thing: 'You can have mine.' A woman is incomplete until she is married. Then she is finished . A little boy asked his father, 'Daddy, how much does it cost to get married?' Father replied, 'I don't know son, I'm still paying.' A young son asked, 'Is it true Dad, that in some parts of Africa A man doesn't know his wife until he marries her?' Dad replied, 'That happens in every country, son.' Plagiarism

Have you read this article about the speech by PLDT Chair Manuel V. Pangilinan on the graduation ceremony in Ateneo on March 26 and 27? It was said that portions of the speech was copied from speeches of Barack Obama, J.K. Rowling, Oprah Winfrey and Conan O'Brien. Part of his speech included this line from the graduation speech of Conan O'Brien, "Forty-four years ago, I sat where you now sit. I also thought what you now think: What is going to happen to me? Where can I find a job? Am I really graduating a virgin?" His public relations department did say that Manuel V. Pangilinan uses the services of speechwriters. Even though it was the speechwriters fault, he did take full responsibility for the mistake and sent in a letter to resign being the Chair of the Ateneo board of trustees. The details of the speech was in Facebook but has already been taken down. I don't have the full transcript of the speech. But here's a video of Conan O'Brien's graduatio...
