3 Cost Effective Ways to Solve Metro Manila's Traffic Problem

Image
The Facebook page of ANC 24/7 is asking for its reader's suggestion on how to solve Metro Manila's traffic problem. This got me thinking, "what is the best way to solve Metro Manila's traffic problem?" It's easy to make suggestions, what's hard is the implementation and the cost of implementation. So what is the the best way to solve Metro Manila's traffic problem and the most cost effective solution? Punitive Fines Add caption First of all, any implementation will definitely cost money, a lot of money. The cause of the traffic mess is the people themselves so it's only right that those causing the traffic problem should be fined and the fine should hurt. That way, the fines will pay for the cost of enforcing the law. The fines should start at P500 and goes up every week if you don't pay it within 15 days. To enforce this and prevent people from ignoring the fine. It will be tied to their driver's license or car registr

Criminal Activity along EDSA

Got this info from a friend. ================== Guys please be careful when travelling along EDSA, an incident happened to me and to fellow motorists this morning in the EDSA: Guadalupe Northbound lanes. I am pasting an excerpt from my email to PNP's Highway Patrol Group as I've tried numerous times to contact them thru 117 and thru their local numbers but no one answers: "the EDSA-Guadalupe area today: April 26, 2011 @ 11:00AM. During the rush hour traffic jam along EDSA Northbound, there were four teenagers that came from the MRT Guadalupe Station and started running alongside the motor vehicles stuck in crawling traffic and tried to open the doors of these vehicles including mine. A taxi in front of me was victimized and they tried to pull out the driver and ended up running off with things that they were able to get. I tried calling 117, Philippine National Police’s hotline while this was happening and no one was answering! Even after numerous trials to contact a

I have found some photos taken by other photographers that does a better job so here they are. Click on the photos for a bigger view. Mt. Batulao Mt. Pulag All photos by Jerry Tieng. RH Bill Fight Heats Up

Image
The fight regarding the RH Bill is heating up specially during the Holy Week. With President Aquino's support of the RH Bill. Several Catholic priest have floated the idea of excommunicating the President. In an article in the Philippine Daily Inquirer. Retired Archbishop Oscar Cruz and Fr. Jerry Oblepias, the diocesan director of the Family Life Ministry in Laguna, both questioned the quality of Mr. Aquino’s Catholicism for supporting the controversial reproductive health bill. Oblepias in particular said Mr. Aquino was a “bad Catholic” with a “conscience that is not well-formed.” Cruz called the President “anti-Christian” for saying that he was prepared to be expelled from the Church if that is what supporting the reproductive health bill would entail. He said that, "There are 2 ways for someone to be excommunicated. Abortion or harming the pope. But just in case the President signs the bill into law…he will not be excommunicated. Unless, if the church proves that

Jan-Jan’s parents file libel cases vs child abuse complainants

This is just something I find bizarre. Joe and Diana Suan, parents of the six-year-old Jan-Jan Suan, have filed on libel cases before the Quezon City Prosecutor's Office earlier Wednesday, April 13, against bloggers John Silva and Froilan Grate, and child psychologist Dr. Lourdes Carandang. It also says that According to the complaint-affidavit, Joe and Diana filed a case against Grate for making it appear that Jan-Jan is an “abused child” and that his family allowed Jan-Jan to be abused in exchange for money and fame. He added that the family does not want Jan-Jan to become a “poster child” for child abuse. “Kung sinasabi po nila na n

More Photos of Manila - The most Beautiful City in Asia 1950's to the mid 1970's

Image
I've gotten a lot of request to post more photos of Manila during the 1950's to the 1970's . I've done some search from the source of the photos I posted from the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee archive. It was a joy to search for these photos and it really shows how beautiful Manila was in the 1950s to the 1970s. This is Manila Cathedral when the photo was taken in 1968. Here you can see the dome of the cathedral as the photo was taken from the back. The dome is now colored blue-green but it was black back then. Manila Cathedral Aerial view of Manila - Port Area. One thing you'll notice in these photos is the lack of garbage on the streets. Also, there's no road construction. Just look at the quality of the roads, it's all flat and concrete. Not even a crack or broken sidewalks. What's interesting is that even though there's a lot of shanties in the photo, you can see that they still kept the are very clean. Manila Port Area

VST & Co. - Tayo'y Magsayawan (Original Footages)

Image
Nostalgia time! Background is Manila in the 1970's. It's still clean! From Wikipedia. VST & Company was composed of Vic Sotto (vocals, producer), Spanky Rigor (bass, vocals, producer), Val Sotto (vocals), Celso Llarina (rhythm guitar, producer), Monet Gaskell (vocals), Male Rigor (vocals), Roger Rigor (vocals), the late Jun Medina (vocals), Joey de Leon (composer, lyricist), Homer Flores (musical arranger, keyboards), Chito Ilagan (bass), Ben Escasa (percussion), Fred Concepcion (trumpet), Boy Alcaide (drums) and Clod Baria (trombone). The all-male group's name, "V.S.T", was said to represent the names of three lead vocalists, "Val, Spanky and Tito."[citation needed] There was also speculation that the acronym stood for "Vicor Super Team" — implying supremacy in the roster of Vicor Music Corporation. VST is also being used by Tito Sotto, which means "Vicente Sotto the Third."

Toughest Place to be a Bus Driver

Documentary about a London Bus Driver who goes to Manila in the Philippines to experience what it is like to live and work as a Jeepney driver in Manila. This is an hour show, but quite interesting about the lives of some of our fellow Filipinos. Around the 45:20 mark, you'll see a part about "Pagpag" or scraps of food collected from garbage. People collect them, was them and cook them again and sold in their Carinderia.

BIR uses Al Capone Method vs Arroyo Son

From the Ph ilippine Daily Inquirer . MANILA, Philippines—No one is untouchable any longer. As the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) itself put it, it is using the Al Capone method to nail a son of former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo for tax fraud. In a move unthinkable for the agency during the nine-year Arroyo administration, the BIR Thursday charged Ang Galing Pinoy party-list Rep. Juan Miguel “Mikey” Arroyo and his wife, Angela, with evading taxes. Under the net worth method, tax investigators add up all assets of a subject and subtract all his or her liabilities to calculate the net worth. BIR Commissioner Kim Jacinto-Henares said the Arroyo couple were found to have a tax liability of at least P73.85 million, including surcharges and interest. From 2003 to 2009, Arroyo, who, incredibly, represents the party-list group of security guards and tricycle drivers, and his wife either failed to file their income tax returns or underdeclared their income, Henares said at
