3 Cost Effective Ways to Solve Metro Manila's Traffic Problem

Image
The Facebook page of ANC 24/7 is asking for its reader's suggestion on how to solve Metro Manila's traffic problem. This got me thinking, "what is the best way to solve Metro Manila's traffic problem?" It's easy to make suggestions, what's hard is the implementation and the cost of implementation. So what is the the best way to solve Metro Manila's traffic problem and the most cost effective solution? Punitive Fines Add caption First of all, any implementation will definitely cost money, a lot of money. The cause of the traffic mess is the people themselves so it's only right that those causing the traffic problem should be fined and the fine should hurt. That way, the fines will pay for the cost of enforcing the law. The fines should start at P500 and goes up every week if you don't pay it within 15 days. To enforce this and prevent people from ignoring the fine. It will be tied to their driver's license or car registr...

Senate votes 20-3 Chief Justice Corona Guilty

Image
MANILA, Philippines - The Senate impeachment court has voted 20-3 to find Chief Justice Renato Corona guilty of culpable violation of the Constitution and betrayal of public trust. I wonder, did Corona's challenge to the senators and congressmen to show their SALN before he show his and walk out contributed to his conviction? After watching the prosecution bungle the trial, I can't help but wonder they they still won. I'm not a big fan of Corona, I think he's as guilty as anyone. But you can't help but think that the judgement has already been predetermined. Here are some reactions and some of the statements by the senators and congressmen. Source

CJ Corona Signs Waiver and Walks Out Of Impeachment Trial

Image
CJ Corona, after delivering his opening statement, walks out of the impeachment trial even before he was discharged. He said he will sign his waiver to disclose all his Peso and foreign currency account from all banks on the condition that all 188 complainants in the prosecution to disclose their SALN as well including Senator Franklin Drillon. If they will not sign, he will not sign his waiver. It's getting interesting this circus show isn't it?

Sen. Miriam Santiago "Mga Gaga Kayo!"

The continuing comedy of the Philippine Senate and the Corona Impeachment trial. Atty. Vitaliano Aguirre - How could you respect a person when that person herself does not show respect? Sen. Miriam Santiago said the prosecutors were "anyayabang, anggagago naman (conceited, stupid)" for saying that they already have a strong case against Corona. "When I heard the news yesterday, I felt like creeping back to bed and adopting a fetal position, which is the normal reaction of any sane person when he's faced with a world that is crumbling around him. I no longer know what universe I'm in because I've spent 5 years of my miserable adult life in trial court day after day after day hearing civil, criminal cases and special proceedings but I've never seen this done to a judge before," she said. ============================ The impeachment trial of Chief Justice Renato Corona was momentarily suspended on Wednesday afternoon after Senator Miriam Defens...

First day of Corona impeach trial filled with ironies, bereft of drama

Image
From the Inquirer . The first day of Chief Justice Renato Corona’s trial was filled with ironies but bereft of the highly charged political drama that engulfed the nation 12 years ago, when then President Joseph Estrada went on trial for almost the same impeachable offenses. Unlike the opening of the Estrada trial on Dec. 7, 2001, the hearing on Monday cannot be characterized as a political circus. While both the prosecution and defense panels had traded barbs through the media in the weeks leading up to the Corona trial, there were no such fireworks on the Senate floor when the contending parties delivered their opening statements. Unexpectedly, Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile stole the thunder from former Supreme Court Associate Justice Serafin Cuevas, head of the defense panel, and Iloilo Representative Niel Tupas Jr., the chief prosecutor of the House of Representatives. Enrile, a veteran lawyer and defense minister in the Marcos dictatorship, took full control of the ...

Chief Justice fights back, won't give up post

Image
By Edu Punay (The Philippine Star) Updated December 13, 2011 12:00 AM MANILA, Philippines - Hours before the House of Representatives voted to impeach him yesterday, Chief Justice Renato Corona rallied the judiciary and his supporters to "remain ready and vigilant" against what he called a "scheme that will destroy democracy." The first chief justice to be impeached broke his silence a week after getting a public tongue lashing from President Aquino, who accused him of undermining the integrity of the judiciary with his alleged partiality toward former President and now Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. Critics consider Corona a midnight appointee because he assumed the post when Reynato Puno retired on May 17, a week after the 2010 elections. But the Supreme Court (SC) upheld Corona's appointment. "I want all of you to know that your chief justice continues to be in command and will lead the fight against any and all who dare to destroy the co...
