3 Cost Effective Ways to Solve Metro Manila's Traffic Problem

Image
The Facebook page of ANC 24/7 is asking for its reader's suggestion on how to solve Metro Manila's traffic problem. This got me thinking, "what is the best way to solve Metro Manila's traffic problem?" It's easy to make suggestions, what's hard is the implementation and the cost of implementation. So what is the the best way to solve Metro Manila's traffic problem and the most cost effective solution? Punitive Fines Add caption First of all, any implementation will definitely cost money, a lot of money. The cause of the traffic mess is the people themselves so it's only right that those causing the traffic problem should be fined and the fine should hurt. That way, the fines will pay for the cost of enforcing the law. The fines should start at P500 and goes up every week if you don't pay it within 15 days. To enforce this and prevent people from ignoring the fine. It will be tied to their driver's license or car registr...

Top 10 Worst Reasons For Voting No To The RH Bill

Image
After 14 years, the RH Bill has finally passed the second reading. Here are the top 10 reason for those congressmen who voted "no" to the bill. Credit goes to John Dy . Here's a note on the photo above. The ranking is subjective of course. So feel free to rank them yourselves. Let's see who will emerge number 1. :D CLARIFICATION: #9-10 is not a direct quote. My mistake for putting the quotation marks. The "and you know the rest" is added by me because he recited the entire prayer and I couldn't put the whole thing in the space. Here's another photo by John Dy on the Senators who are opposed to the RH Bill.

Arroyo bid sparks outrage

From the Philippine Daily Inquirer. ====================== MANILA, Philippines—Within hours of her declaration that she was running for Congress in May, a firestorm of criticism swirled around President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, with one critic accusing her of being drunk with power and others saying her aim was to shield herself from “a landslide of lawsuits.” The criticisms, as well as concerns, came both from her well-known political enemies and from some Church leaders. The biggest worry of Ms Arroyo’s political foes appeared to be that she might use a seat in Congress as a launching pad to become prime minister, in case of a shift to a parliamentary government. Roman Catholic Archbishop Emeritus Oscar Cruz, for so long a vocal critic of Ms Arroyo, said the framers of the Constitution did not think of imposing a ban on an outgoing president running for a lower office simply because it was unthinkable. “There appears to be no reasonable cause for such a constitutional prohibition as ...

Filipina Maid Returns $2.1M

Read this article from the Philippine Daily Inquirer about a Filipino domestic helper fro Nueva Vizcaya returning cash and cheques worth $2.1M she found in a garbage can in Hong Kong. Because of that, she is going to be given commendation for her honesty by congress and she would receive the commendation from Speaker of the House Prospero Nograles. She will also receive P150,000 from Nueva Vizcaya Rep. Carlos Padilla and the Nueva Vizcaya provincial government. In addition to that, her two children will also receive scholarships. Is it just me or does this seem wrong? Why are we awarding and commending people for honesty? Seriously, why? Don't get me wrong, I have no objection of giving her a monetary award. But why? Isn't honesty supposed to be a given? Isn't it that all people should be honest? Why give an award for something that you should be doing anyway? Should we give an award for people taking a bath or brushing their teeth? (Ok, maybe we should give an award for t...

GMA to run for congress in 2010

There! I called it! I'm positive that GMA will be running as representative for the second district of Pampanga in 2010. How can I be so sure? Her cabinet secretary Silvestre Bello already said so. Well, he didn't really say yes. But he said, "if the electoral fight materializes, it would indeed be between David and Goliath, but with Ms Arroyo clobbering her opponent. But it does not mean we are admitting that it will be David winning over Goliath this time." This is in reference to the news that UP Professor and PDI columnist Randy David is planning to run for congress if GMA decides to run. First of all, you don't make a comment like that if you don't have any plans to run. Second, why do we not have any laws against Presidents running for lower office? Isn't that a conflict of interest? In this world, aren't you supposed to move up in your career and not down? But what am I saying? Of course it's a move up. Once she's in congress, she...
