3 Cost Effective Ways to Solve Metro Manila's Traffic Problem

Image
The Facebook page of ANC 24/7 is asking for its reader's suggestion on how to solve Metro Manila's traffic problem. This got me thinking, "what is the best way to solve Metro Manila's traffic problem?" It's easy to make suggestions, what's hard is the implementation and the cost of implementation. So what is the the best way to solve Metro Manila's traffic problem and the most cost effective solution? Punitive Fines Add caption First of all, any implementation will definitely cost money, a lot of money. The cause of the traffic mess is the people themselves so it's only right that those causing the traffic problem should be fined and the fine should hurt. That way, the fines will pay for the cost of enforcing the law. The fines should start at P500 and goes up every week if you don't pay it within 15 days. To enforce this and prevent people from ignoring the fine. It will be tied to their driver's license or car registr...

Bongbong Marcos On EDSA Anniversary

I read this on Bongbong Marcos' Facebook page. No matter your political leanings, I think it's a good read. In response to several queries (it’s that time of the year -- EDSA anniversary) on my take on the declaration of Martial Law and the events that took place in February of 1986, there is really nothing more I can add to what I’ve already said over the last two decades; and what happened in the past cannot be changed. But just to reiterate my view of that period of our history, and for the sake of those too young or yet to be born in the early 70’s, let me try and summarize how I see it. Martial Law was declared at a time different from now and I say this not only in regard to the Philippines but throughout the world including in western democracies where the youth of those nations rebelled against the established norms of that era. In the United States, armed clashes between civilians and police were frequent and groups such as the Black Panthers, The Weathermen, Studen...

The Real Bongbong Marcos

Here's an interview on Bongbong Marcos by the Manila Bulletin on Feb 26, 2011. Some very interesting bits about the life of his father Ferdinand Marcos and his views on the current political situation in the Philippines. Here's some excerpts. MANILA, Philippines — Twenty-five years ago, he was on the other side of the battlefield, the one who firmly stood by the side of his father, former President Ferdinand Marcos, until the very end of the latter's 20-year rule brought about by the world’s first peaceful people uprising. Today, amid the commemoration activities for that uprising that has come to be known as EDSA Revolution, Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos, Jr. has chosen to move on and reduce the experience to a painful memory. “I have found myself a career. Once in a while your thoughts go back to the things that happened but only in a nostalgic sense. Tapos na so you get on with your new life and that’s really where we are. Those after effects have become ripples...
