3 Cost Effective Ways to Solve Metro Manila's Traffic Problem

Image
The Facebook page of ANC 24/7 is asking for its reader's suggestion on how to solve Metro Manila's traffic problem. This got me thinking, "what is the best way to solve Metro Manila's traffic problem?" It's easy to make suggestions, what's hard is the implementation and the cost of implementation. So what is the the best way to solve Metro Manila's traffic problem and the most cost effective solution? Punitive Fines Add caption First of all, any implementation will definitely cost money, a lot of money. The cause of the traffic mess is the people themselves so it's only right that those causing the traffic problem should be fined and the fine should hurt. That way, the fines will pay for the cost of enforcing the law. The fines should start at P500 and goes up every week if you don't pay it within 15 days. To enforce this and prevent people from ignoring the fine. It will be tied to their driver's license or car registr

New peso bills judged among the best currency series

Image
From the Philippine Daily Inquirer . MANILA, Philippines—The series of new peso bills, which was vilified after its launch last December for a mislocated map, a wrong-colored beak of a bird, among other errors, has been judged as one of the best currency series in the world in an international design competition. The set of new peso notes, called the “New Generation Currency (NGC)” series, was one of two finalists for best new currencies in the world in a worldwide contest organized by the International Association of Currency Affairs (IACA). IACA is an international organization of central banks, currency-issuing authorities, currency producers and suppliers. The winner of the Best Currency Award was the new series of shilling notes from Uganda. The other finalist for best new currencies was the new series of rupee notes from Sri Lanka. Hit-and-run toddler victim Yueyue passes away

Image
Yueyue, the toddler that sparked an outpouring of sympathy across China and the world this week, passed away this morning at 12:32am. The incredibly sad news was announced by a briefing at the hospital at 8:30am this morning. Yueyue was treated for seven days and nights in intensive care, but despite the best medical treatment available, she simply could not survive her injuries. The hospital states that although they used the best-available resources from military and civilian experts, her injuries were simply too severe. The major cause of death was brain failure, which caused her major organs to shut down. The hospital "deeply regrets the loss, but thanks everyone for their concern and attention." Full story from Shanghaiist . This is really very tragic. It's so sad that she could have been saved had the first driver stopped or at least if some of the people helped her right away. The video was very hard to watch as you can see her trying to stand up and then got

2 Year Old Girl Ran Over 2 Times In Foshan China (Graphic Video)

Image
A 2 year old girl was ran over 2 times in Foshan, China with 18 witnesses ignoring the incident. I have to warn you, this is a very graphic video. The girl's name is Yueyue, the driver was caught. He is seen swerving into the girl at the last moment. He claims he was on his phone at the time but both hands were on the wheel. The girl is brain dead and will most likely not survive, or at best live in a vegetative state for the rest of her life. The driver was saying how if the girl dies he will pay a fine of US$3,125, but if she lives it will be many many times more. A rag collector was finally seen picking the girl up and went she was first shown yelling to ask for her parents, other shopkeepers told her to shut up and mind her own business. Watch. As explained in CNN, one of the reasons nobody helped the child was there were a high profile case in China back in 2006 when a Good Samaritan who helped a woman get to hospital was wrongly ordered to pay her compensation.

Ako'y Isang Pinoy by Filipino folk singer Florante. This was in the time when Filipinos are proud of themselves for being Filipinos. Nowadays, Filipinos get their pride when a fellow Filipino makes it big internationally but wouldn't even admit they're Filipinos if they live abroad. Here's a live video of Florante singing Ako'y Isang Pinoy.

Philippines - Manila - Awfully Disappointing

I saw this travel blog written by Geoffrey James about Manila and I thought I'd share it here. I honestly do really HATE to write negative posts. If you check through this blog you’ll see that even the posts on Afghanistan have a few positive things to say……. But my GOODNESS the Philippines!!! Or more precisely Manila, because you cannot and should not generalize about such a large country spread over thousands of islands. Manila - what a dump! The city has got to be the disgrace of South-east Asia, all the more so because twenty years ago when I used to come through here en route to Papua New Guinea it was THE place in the region to come to for shopping and R&R. How the mighty are fallen! Let’s start with the international airport. Ninoy Aquino International is exactly the same as it was all that time ago; the same awful green lino when you arrive, the same over-crowded Departure Hall, nowhere to sit if your check-in desk isn’t open. Once through security you find the

Thank You Steve

Steve Jobs passed away yesterday, October 5, 2011. He was 56 years old. The Internet was abuzzed with the news of Steve Jobs death. A lot of famous people commented as well like Bill Gates, Sergey Brin and Mark Zuckerberg. Some saying that we love a great leader and visionary. New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg even compared him to Thomas Edison and Albert Einstein. Of course, with all the praises also comes the haters. With people wondering why they are treating him like a god and that it's ridiculous to compare him to Edison or Einstein. That Steve Jobs was not a great inventor but just a great marketing guy. I feel sad on Steve Jobs' passing. It may be funny to think about. I personally do not know the guy nor have I met him. My only connection to him is the Apple products we have and what I read about him. I remember when I first saw the news. I just got home and when I opened up my computer, the first news I read was Steve Jobs has passed away. I was shocked! I

Comments On The Passing Of Steve Jobs

After the news of Steve Jobs' passing. A number of his contemporaries commenting on his passing including Bill Gates, President Barack Obama and Disney President Bog Iger. Bill Gates offers his condolences (via AllThingsD): I’m truly saddened to learn of Steve Jobs’ death. Melinda and I extend our sincere condolences to his family and friends, and to everyone Steve has touched through his work. Steve and I first met nearly 30 years ago, and have been colleagues, competitors and friends over the course of more than half our lives. The world rarely sees someone who has had the profound impact Steve has had, the effects of which will be felt for many generations to come. For those of us lucky enough to get to work with him, it’s been an insanely great honor. I will miss Steve immensely. Google’s Sergey Brin just posted this statement on Google+: From the earliest days of Google, whenever Larry and I sought inspiration for vision and leadership, we needed to look no farth

Letter To Husband

Image
My darling husband, Before you return from your business trip, I just want to let you know about the small accident I had with the pick up truck when I turned into the driveway. Fortunately it's not too bad and I really didn't get hurt, so please don't worry too much about me. I was coming home from Wal-Mart, and when I turned into the driveway I accidentally pushed down on the accelerator instead of the brake. The garage door is slightly bent but fortunately the pick up came to a halt when it bumped into your car. I am really sorry, but I know with your kind-hearted personality you will forgive me. You know how much I love you and care for you my sweetheart. I am enclosing a picture of the damage for you. I cannot wait to hold you in my arms again. Your loving wife. XXX P.S. Your girlfriend called.
