3 Cost Effective Ways to Solve Metro Manila's Traffic Problem

Image
The Facebook page of ANC 24/7 is asking for its reader's suggestion on how to solve Metro Manila's traffic problem. This got me thinking, "what is the best way to solve Metro Manila's traffic problem?" It's easy to make suggestions, what's hard is the implementation and the cost of implementation. So what is the the best way to solve Metro Manila's traffic problem and the most cost effective solution? Punitive Fines Add caption First of all, any implementation will definitely cost money, a lot of money. The cause of the traffic mess is the people themselves so it's only right that those causing the traffic problem should be fined and the fine should hurt. That way, the fines will pay for the cost of enforcing the law. The fines should start at P500 and goes up every week if you don't pay it within 15 days. To enforce this and prevent people from ignoring the fine. It will be tied to their driver's license or car registr...

It's More Fun In The Philippines

Image
The Philippine government launched Friday its new brand campaign to attract visitors to the country with the line - "It's more fun in the Philippines," according to Tourism Secretary Ramon Jimenez Jr. The tourism secretary said that the new campaign singles out what no other destination can offer, and "that is the Filipino people." For example, the Lonely Planet guidebook calls Filipinos "among the most easygoing and ebullient people anywhere," he said. "Our strategy is simple: while other countries invite you to observe, Filipinos can promise a more heartfelt and interesting experience. Wherever you go, whatever you do in the country, it's the Filipinos that will complete your vacation and will make your holiday unforgettable," Jimenez said. As the international campaign is underway, the DOT is also developing a national initiative under the line "#1forFun" to rally the nation, he said. Here's a website of the ban...

Philippine SWAT Storm Bus With Hostages In Manila

Image
Here's the footage of the storming of the bus with hostages in Manila on August 23, 2010. There were 25 hostages and 7 people were killed, 5 were injured and taken to the hospital and 9 were released by the hostage taker Rolando Mendoza. Because of this incident, Hong Kong has issued a travel ban to the Philippines. One of my co-workers who's from Hong Kong said, "My people were killed! How can you live in a country were the peace keepers cannot keep the peace? The police were inept and doesn't even seem to know what they were doing. I wouldn't want to go there." If you look at the footage, you can see that the Philippine SWAT team really looks disorganized. Here's what some of my friends called the SWAT. SWAT = Sorry Wala Akong Training / Sorry We Aren't Trained / Sulong, Wait, Atras, Tago LOL. What a damn shame, goodbye tourism! Here's another video of the hostage crisis from AP. Here are some photos I found online of the situation. Photo copyri...

The Actions Of the Few Destroys the Future of the Many

The previous article I posted about why cruise ships skips Manila . Whether that is true or not, I do not know. But I'm not surprised if it is true. That has been the nature of most if not all Philippine government officials. From personal experience alone, I can tell you this happens all the time. Whenever I travel, every time I go through Philippine customs. They always try to see if they can milk you for something or ask for some "balato". Just last week, when I went to Manila for a vacation, after I got my luggage and I went through customs. Just before I exited the doors going out to where you wait for the car to pick you up. The last guy on the door said, "Gwapo nang pangalan mo ah. Meron ba tayong pasalubong diyan?" That's the kind of people we have running our port of entry. Now, I'm use to this so I just ignore it. But what about foreigners? My friend was telling me a story when he went to Japan for a vacation. He got into a conversation with th...

Why Cruise Ships Skips Manila?

Got this from an e-mail. If you think about it, cruise ships docks in Vietnam , Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia , Korea and others, and they're no better than Manila or Cebu. This was written by a Pinoy couple who now live in the US. Would like to share with you what we found out as the reason why cruise ships of the big cruise companies skip Manila. My wife and I are regular cruisers and we always talk to the Filipino crew. When we took the 12-day Mediterranean cruise I asked the Pinoy waiters (because we are in a big group, we usually request for Pinoy waiters to be assigned to us) why all their Asian cruises skip Manila when they go to all the neighboring countries of the Philippines. When inspection time comes upon o...
