3 Cost Effective Ways to Solve Metro Manila's Traffic Problem

Image
The Facebook page of ANC 24/7 is asking for its reader's suggestion on how to solve Metro Manila's traffic problem. This got me thinking, "what is the best way to solve Metro Manila's traffic problem?" It's easy to make suggestions, what's hard is the implementation and the cost of implementation. So what is the the best way to solve Metro Manila's traffic problem and the most cost effective solution? Punitive Fines Add caption First of all, any implementation will definitely cost money, a lot of money. The cause of the traffic mess is the people themselves so it's only right that those causing the traffic problem should be fined and the fine should hurt. That way, the fines will pay for the cost of enforcing the law. The fines should start at P500 and goes up every week if you don't pay it within 15 days. To enforce this and prevent people from ignoring the fine. It will be tied to their driver's license or car registr...

I found this article on the ASEAN Community Facebook page . Great place to get info about ASEAN. 'Philippines will phase-out 3.5 Million Tricycles to save EARTH & $5 Billion USD imported Gas yearly' Reported in the Environmental Protection Online, Philippine government will replace the Pedi-cab or the tricycles-taxis with Electronic Trikes. The Philippines will be introducing electronic tricycle taxis to replace its petrol-fuelled models, which could cut carbon dioxide emissions by a quarter of million tons. We Didn't Have This Green Thing Back In Our Day

Saw this on Facebook. I felt like sharing it. Checking out at the supermarket recently, the young cashier suggested I should bring my own bags because plastic bags weren't good for the environment. I apologised and explained, "We didn't have this green thing back in my earlier days." The cashier responded, "That's our problem today. Your generation did not care enough to save our environment for future generations." She was right about one thing--our generation didn't have the green thing in "Our" day. So what did we have back then? After some reflection and soul-searching on "Our" day here's what I remembered we did have... Back then, we returned milk bottles, pop bottles and beer bottles to the store. The store sent them back to the plant to be washed and sterilized and refilled, so it could use the same bottles repeatedly. So they really were recycled. But we didn't have the green thing back in our day. We wal...

Stanford Students Design Recyclable Laptop

Image
The hardest part about e-recycling a laptop is separating their components. Plastic parts has to be separated with the metals and electronics and each laptop requires a different set of tools to disassemble. These Stanford students designed a laptop that completely disassembles in less than two minutes without tools.

GOOD Transparency Cities: Emerging City Innovation

I find it depressing that countries like Columbia, Rio de Janeiro and Brazil comes up with new innovations almost every year that makes it better for their citizens to live in their cities such as having a better environment and alternative energy resources. While these countries move forward, the Philippines seems to be moving backward in innovation and environment. So when is the Philippines ever going to have someone who is forward looking enough to do something like this?
