3 Cost Effective Ways to Solve Metro Manila's Traffic Problem

Image
The Facebook page of ANC 24/7 is asking for its reader's suggestion on how to solve Metro Manila's traffic problem. This got me thinking, "what is the best way to solve Metro Manila's traffic problem?" It's easy to make suggestions, what's hard is the implementation and the cost of implementation. So what is the the best way to solve Metro Manila's traffic problem and the most cost effective solution? Punitive Fines Add caption First of all, any implementation will definitely cost money, a lot of money. The cause of the traffic mess is the people themselves so it's only right that those causing the traffic problem should be fined and the fine should hurt. That way, the fines will pay for the cost of enforcing the law. The fines should start at P500 and goes up every week if you don't pay it within 15 days. To enforce this and prevent people from ignoring the fine. It will be tied to their driver's license or car registr...

Retrieve Your Legal Data From Megaupload.com

Image
From Wired.com After the Justice Department indicted the top officials of the Hong Kong-based file-sharing site Megaupload.com on Jan. 19 and ordered a server purge, legal users of the site have been scrambling to retrieve their data. Threat Level's David Kravets reported Jan. 31 that "a scheduled purging of Megaupload’s data was tentatively shelved Tuesday to give its millions of account holders an opportunity to attempt to retrieve their content from the file-sharing service." The hosting companies possessing Megaupload customer's data could begin purging data as soon as Feb. 2, as the Justice Department has frozen the Megaupload administrators' assets so they can't pay their hosting bills. However, it remains unclear how much time users actually have to safely remove their data from the service before the cloud evaporates. If you are one of the millions of innocent Megaupload account holders and are wondering how to get your data back, here a...

Hollywood Moguls Stopping Obama Donations Because Of President’s Piracy Stand: “Not Give A Dime Anymore”

Image
EXCLUSIVE: Internet sites on their SOPAStrike may be conducting a blackout but Hollywood studios are conducting a boycott. I’ve learned that Hollywood studio chiefs individually and as a group are drawing a line in the sand on the piracy issue with the Obama re-election campaign and refusing to give any more donations.  The blowup came after President Obama on Saturday dashed moguls’ hopes that he would remain on the sidelines in the dispute over the U.S. House Of Representatives’ Stop Online Piracy Act and the U.S. Senate’s Protect IP Act. In a posting on the White House web site, three of the Obama administration’s top officials for Internet and intellectual property matters said that  they share many of the concerns that the Internet community has about the Hollywood-supported bills. The trio said that they “will not support legislation that reduces freedom of expression, increases cybersecurity risk, or undermines the dynamic,...

PROTECT IP / SOPA Breaks The Internet

Tell Congress not to censor the internet NOW! - fightforthefuture.org/pipa PROTECT-IP is a bill that has been introduced in the Senate and the House and is moving quickly through Congress. It gives the government and corporations the ability to censor the net, in the name of protecting "creativity". The law would let the government or corporations censor entire sites-- they just have to convince a judge that the site is "dedicated to copyright infringement." The government has already wrongly shut down sites without any recourse to the site owner. Under this bill, sharing a video with anything copyrighted in it, or what sites like Youtube and Twitter do, would be considered illegal behavior according to this bill. According to the Congressional Budget Office, this bill would cost us $47 million tax dollars a year — that's for a fix that won't work, disrupts the internet, stifles innovation, shuts out diverse voices, and censors the internet. This bill ...

Hitler reacts to SOPA

Image
"Don't cry, Disney owns the rights to that emotion" -- epic! Funny thing is, if SOPA is passed. You won't see Hitler get angry at anything anymore. In a nutshell, they want to screw the many (Internet users) to protect the few (Entertainment Industry). #stopsopa #sopa

Why SOPA Is Dangerous

Have you heard of SOPA/PIPA? SOPA is the Stop Online Piracy Act and PIPA is the Protect Intellectual Property Act. A lot of company is opposed to it like Google, Wikipedia and Facebook. I can't say I fully understand it myself. But from what I know, it means that you can be sued or penalized if you run a website like a blog, and you have a comment section you're going to have even more problems. How? If you happen to share something that has a potential copyright like a song, you can be shut down or sued. If your readers happen to comment on something and share something with a potential copyright on the comment, you can be shut down as well even if you were not responsible for it. See, it doesn't have to be you who infringed on a copyright, it can be your readers or commenters. You're still responsible for it. It's basically a censor for the Internet like how China censors the Internet. Here's an article from Mashable that I found that explains SOPA/PI...

The Day The LOLcats Died

Image
SOPA and PIPA are two examples of recent legislation that is lethal to the internet as we know it. The internet rose up and is on its way to successfully fighting them off, but we need to stay vigilant. The only way to prevent legislation like this from being passed in the future is to call your Congressmen and tell them. Make it clear that you don't support SOPA, you don't support PIPA, and that you won't support future legislation that damages the stability of the internet. Screencap of the very first browser

Image
Here's a screencap of the very first browser created by Tim Berners-Lee. Those were the days. I remember my first experience with the Internet. I bought OS/2 Warp and subscribed to IBM's Dial-up service just to try it out. It cost $90 for like 20 hours online or something. I used up the 20 hours and then had no Internet for the next few months. But I was hooked on the Internet and was surprised how much info one can get online. I got online again when a friend of mine told me he was subscribing to iPhil. I think we were client number 1 and 2. I can't remember how much we pay for it, but it was even better since the Internet has grown a lot more and I discovered Telnet, FTP, IRC, Sega Chat, ARCHIE, etc. The exploring was the fun part. Now, the Internet is so much a part of our lives, it seems like it's the TV and we take it for granted. We even have to buy magazines listing the IP address and website address of new sites. Those were the days, where every new site you go ...
