3 Cost Effective Ways to Solve Metro Manila's Traffic Problem

Image
The Facebook page of ANC 24/7 is asking for its reader's suggestion on how to solve Metro Manila's traffic problem. This got me thinking, "what is the best way to solve Metro Manila's traffic problem?" It's easy to make suggestions, what's hard is the implementation and the cost of implementation. So what is the the best way to solve Metro Manila's traffic problem and the most cost effective solution? Punitive Fines Add caption First of all, any implementation will definitely cost money, a lot of money. The cause of the traffic mess is the people themselves so it's only right that those causing the traffic problem should be fined and the fine should hurt. That way, the fines will pay for the cost of enforcing the law. The fines should start at P500 and goes up every week if you don't pay it within 15 days. To enforce this and prevent people from ignoring the fine. It will be tied to their driver's license or car registr...

PagPag Manila Poor & Children Eat Garbage

Image
Found this video on Youtube about "Pagpag" as it was featured on CNN. The description on Youtube blames PNoy. I'm not a supporter of PNoy or any administration. In fact, I'm not a supporter of any politicians as I think they're all crap. But this "pagpag" existed even before PNoy's time. I was happening during GMA's time and probably even before Cory Aquino's time. The problem is, the poor gets poorer and the rich gets richer in the Philippines because of complete incompetency and massive corruption by all levels of government. The only thing that will solve the poverty problem is to have a growing economy that benefits everyone and an education system to will elevate the future of these children.

Every Human Must Watch This Video

Image
This video shows a side of the Philippines that's rarely seen or given noticed by the media. The food being reused here is called " pagpag " which means dusted or cleaned in Filipino. I posted about this before. Please share this video so people will be aware of what's going on.

Pagpag: Survival food for the poorest of the poor

Image
From P hilippine Online Chronicles . Have you ever wondered whatever happened to the left-over food you did not finish in fast food restaurants? You may think they would have been thrown away and discarded for good. For sure they are headed to the trash bin after people leave them on the table. But what happens next is something you ought to know. The morsels of unfinished Chicken Joy in Jollibee or the left-over spaghetti in McDonald’s might yet save a family from hunger. The leftover food stuffs are thrown in a large black plastic bag and collected by a garbage truck. The truck travels towards a garbage dumpsite, either in Payatas in Quezon City or Smokey Mountain in Tondo, Manila. After the truck has dumped the trash in these garbage sites, the leftovers begin to change its nature: from trash to food. Scavengers would swarm on these morsels like they were gadflies, sometimes even fighting over them.. The food we consider trash becomes for them sustenance. You may think that it is cr...

Joey Velasco - Sa Kambas ng Lipunan - On the Canvas of Society

I would like to share this video I saw. It's a sad story about the state of the street children in our society. Here's the description of the video from Youtube. For further information visit www.joeyvelasco.net On the Canvas of Society While you watch this video, allow me to share with you some words as a backdrop or background of this video. What follows is an excerpt from Joey Velasco's speech at the start of his Book Launching and First Solo Exhibit in Art Asia. His book is entitled "They Have Jesus: The Stories of the Children of Hapag" and was launched on Oct. 13, 2006. -excerpt starts- Jesus Christ never wrote a book. The only scene in the Gospel where we saw him write was on the sand. But what he wrote was blown by the wind. What was etched in our minds forever in history and in eternity was his preference for the outcasts and rejects. In the future, I will be like the sand that will be blown by the wind. I will remain an unknown artist and writer. I will ...

Being A Scavenger

This is the reality of majority of poor Filipinos. In a country where the President and her entourage spends $20,000 for a dinner. It's unbelievable that people still live like this and eats garbage to survive.

Follow Up Story to Sam and Esther

These are the wonderful things charities do. I can't vouch for this particular charity, but please remember to give to a charity that is dear to you. There are some guidelines on how to choose a charity. The most important is that the majority of the money you give goes to benefit those that need it and not into the administration of the charity. Normally, it is best if their administration expense is less than 10%. There are expenses for fund raising, which is a normal course of running a charity, but these has to be reasonable with regards to the amount of money the charity receives. One of the best way to determine how a charity does is by checking Charity Navigator . The website has a four star rating system to determine a charity's organizational efficiency and capacity. Charity Navigator is U.S. based so it only evaluates charities in the US that has been granted tax-exempt status. It doesn't evaluate all charities. Religious charities, private foundations and certai...

A Very Sad Story

These kind of things shouldn't be happening in this world anymore.

Rice Crisis?

Read this editorial in the Philippine Daily Inquirer about global warming. It mentions that sea level will rise because of global warming. What got me concerned was the report that rice yields in the Philippines could drop by 50 to 70 percent by 2020. That's a scary and sad at the same time. The Philippines was always considered to be a rich country pretending to be poor. Rich in the sense that the Philippines has abundant natural resources. From rich soil, good climate, mineral resources and rich ocean resources. Unfortunately for the Philippines, years of abuse and exploitation by the government has denuded the forest, polluted the oceans, gave away mineral rights for bribes and neglected all the potentials of the country. To read that rice production will drop by 50 to 70% is shocking. Considering that the International Rice Research Institute or IRRI was established in the Philippines. A lot of Asian countries like Vietnam and Thailand envied the Philippines in the 1970s becau...
