3 Cost Effective Ways to Solve Metro Manila's Traffic Problem

Image
The Facebook page of ANC 24/7 is asking for its reader's suggestion on how to solve Metro Manila's traffic problem. This got me thinking, "what is the best way to solve Metro Manila's traffic problem?" It's easy to make suggestions, what's hard is the implementation and the cost of implementation. So what is the the best way to solve Metro Manila's traffic problem and the most cost effective solution? Punitive Fines Add caption First of all, any implementation will definitely cost money, a lot of money. The cause of the traffic mess is the people themselves so it's only right that those causing the traffic problem should be fined and the fine should hurt. That way, the fines will pay for the cost of enforcing the law. The fines should start at P500 and goes up every week if you don't pay it within 15 days. To enforce this and prevent people from ignoring the fine. It will be tied to their driver's license or car registr...

According to the report, the 2 Englishmen (Sam and Chris) where skateboarding along Fifth Avenue when two lady policewomen instructed them nicely that they could not skate there and told them to do it at the park, which they did. According to the Englismen, while at the park, a lady marshal shown on 1:16 of the video stopped them rudely. They explained to the marshal that the policewomen told them they can skate there. The marshal called for backup and confiscated their skateboard. One of the Englishman (Sam) said he got scared and ran off. The marshals successfully caught him as shown in the video. According to a comment by Julie on the  When In Manila   page. She said, I was there at the park when it started. A lady guard was asking them nicely to transfer since the park is not intended for skateboarders. The simple argument went wild when one of the foreigners went amok and hi...

Also, Manila's homicide unit hunts the killers of two of their team.

PNP FB Admin First to Abuse Cybercrime Law

Image
You know that Cybercrime Law that was just passed? Well, here it is in practice. It's not even in effect yet but the PNP is already investigating someone who made a negative comment on the PNP's Facebook page. From FilipinoFreeThinkers.org The Cybercrime law hadn’t even taken effect, but that didn’t stop the Philippine National Police (PNP) from abusing it. At least that’s what the admin of their Facebook page did when they encountered an unwelcome comment. The comment was a response to PNP’s post about criminology students doing poorly in English. Here’s a screenshot just in case they delete the comment, too: I say “too” because right now these are the only comments I can read out of the ones included in a screenshot that is spreading all over Facebook. Here it is, just in case they get Facebook to take it down as well: As several commenters have pointed out, the law doesn’t take effect till Wednesday, October 3. Yet the “CIDG Anti Transnational Crime is now condu...

Sana makatulong ito sa April 20, Know your rights.. Be pormal.. "Educate so you can medicate" PUBLIC AWARENESS: PNP issues updated guidelines on checkpoints In a bid to eradicate abuses committed by police elements in the conduct of anti-crime operations, Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Director General Nicanor Bartolome issued today a 10-point list of guidelines to be observed by lawmen manning checkpoints. According to General Bartolome, the PNP will strictly abide by the instruction of the Department of Justice to implement a "no tint" or "clear window" policy among marked police vehicles in order to gain the trust and confidence of the citizenry. The general public is thus advised on these 10 rules on military/police checkpoints: * Checkpoint must be well-lit, properly identified and manned b...

This lone police woman has more balls than the whole Philippine SWAT team that tried to rescue the hostages.

Another Police Booboo

I got this e-mail accounting the personal observations of a friend regarding the botched rescue attempt of the hostages in Manila on August 23, 2010. ==================== Personal observations on Mendoza’s hostage taking It is very disturbing to see how inept our police forces have remained in handling hostage situations. To wit: · Failure to control the crowd and media. Media was unwittingly telegraphing the PNP plans and positions over TV and radio. Rolando Mendoza apparently was able to listen to radio broadcasts. · The police was ill-equipped with gas masks and comfortable assault uniforms and not office attires. Can you imagine executing assault moves in office uniforms? · It is very important that the hostage taker be kept calm so he will decide on drastic steps not out of panic but clear thinking. The hostage takers must have panicked hearing over the radio the rough handling of his brother by the police who decided to arrest him for obstruction of justice. ·...

Attempted Carnapping & Abduction of My First Cousin

I got this from a Philip Kimpo Jr. I thought I'd share it with everyone. =================== My first cousin Steph asked me to disseminate this online so that others might know and safeguard themselves from this modus operandi. The criminals involved had disguised themselves as police (hopefully, it was indeed just a disguise); even their van had police markings. They were armed with an armalite. The crime was attempted just meters away from her house inside their village in Sucat, Muntinlupa. [Erratum: I first wrote "Parañaque" because from my understanding, their village straddles the boundary between the two cities. My mistake and not my cousin's. My apologies.] By God's grace, she survived the ordeal. Please pass on and spread the word ; maybe members of the media can check on this, too. Understandably, my cousin was traumatized by the event and I admire her for gathering her wits together to share her ordeal with the public. This is her narration: ATTEMPTED ...
