3 Cost Effective Ways to Solve Metro Manila's Traffic Problem

Image
The Facebook page of ANC 24/7 is asking for its reader's suggestion on how to solve Metro Manila's traffic problem. This got me thinking, "what is the best way to solve Metro Manila's traffic problem?" It's easy to make suggestions, what's hard is the implementation and the cost of implementation. So what is the the best way to solve Metro Manila's traffic problem and the most cost effective solution? Punitive Fines Add caption First of all, any implementation will definitely cost money, a lot of money. The cause of the traffic mess is the people themselves so it's only right that those causing the traffic problem should be fined and the fine should hurt. That way, the fines will pay for the cost of enforcing the law. The fines should start at P500 and goes up every week if you don't pay it within 15 days. To enforce this and prevent people from ignoring the fine. It will be tied to their driver's license or car registr...

Boy Falls On Train Tracks While Playing PSP

Do you ever tell your kids pay attention to when they are going and stop playing their PSP or DS while walking? Their attitude is usually that of indignation that nothing could be more important to have their game interrupted. Well, this ten-year old kid in Italy apparently thought that nothing in the world is more important to have his PSP game interrupted, not even the end of the train platform which promptly led him right off on to the train tracks. Watch. Fortunately for him there was a 23-year old off duty cop who jumped down the tracks and dragged the kid back to the platform. Parents, you can now thank me for giving you a tool to show your kids the dangers of walking without paying attention.

Girl who saved brother from fire suffers infections

From the Philippine Daily Inquirer . ====================== BACOLOD CITY, Philippines—The six-year-old child from Sipalay City who saved her four-month-old brother from a fire has been transferred to the burn unit of the Teresita Jalandoni Provincial Hospital in Silay City because her wounds have developed infections. Virginia Rojo was treated at the Sipalay Infirmary after the upper half of her face and hands suffered second degree burns when she saved her baby brother, Joren, from a fire that destroyed their house in Barangay San Jose, Sipalay City on Feb. 28. Dr. Francis Hinayan of the provincial hospital said the burnt areas of the child’s body were being cleaned to prevent infection. These burns were expected to leave scars on Rojo. Rojo earlier said "Papa Jesus" woke her up and told her to save her brother from the fire, as her mother and older sister were not in the house at the time. Rojo has since been hailed as a heroine, especially by her neighbors, and numerous do...

Richard Gutierrez Heroism on Typhoon Ondoy

Image
I saw this on Youtube about Richard Gutierrez saving Cristine Reyes who was on the roof of her house due to the flood caused by Typhoon Ondoy the hit Metro Manila on Sept 26, 2009. Here's the photo of Cristine Reyes. I'm not sure how much of a hero he is, but from what I gather, he was using a borrowed speedboat to save Cristine and her family and left the other victims. So he was basically a hero...only to Cristine Reyes. Also going around is that he's the only one doing an interview of his heroism while no other artist who helped save people did. Artists like Jericho Rosales and Gerald Anderson has no interview of their heroism and in fact were avoiding any interviews about it. Then again, if you're an artist, any publicity is good publicity.

Stories of Bravery and Tragedy

Summarized from the Philippine Daily Inquirer . During the massive flooding caused by Typhoon Ondoy that wrecked havoc to Metro Manila on Sept 26, 2009. We're heard stories of our fellowmen doing acts of heroism and bravery with little thoughts about their own safety. Just like the story about a Judge Ralph Lee of Regional Trial Court Branch 83. “I heard that so many families were already stranded on their rooftops because water from the Tullahan River was already overflowing,” Lee, 49, told the Inquirer. Lee drove from his Fairview home for the stricken community 30 minutes away with his personal water craft, life vests and two rubber boats he used on weekend wakeboarding sorties and mobilized a rescue effort that saved 100 lives. Because of Judge Lee's efforts, people were calling him "Superman". There were other super heroes, like Muelmar Magallanes, a powerful swimmer who braved rampaging floods to save more than 30 people, but ended up sacrificing his life in a l...
