3 Cost Effective Ways to Solve Metro Manila's Traffic Problem

Image
The Facebook page of ANC 24/7 is asking for its reader's suggestion on how to solve Metro Manila's traffic problem. This got me thinking, "what is the best way to solve Metro Manila's traffic problem?" It's easy to make suggestions, what's hard is the implementation and the cost of implementation. So what is the the best way to solve Metro Manila's traffic problem and the most cost effective solution? Punitive Fines Add caption First of all, any implementation will definitely cost money, a lot of money. The cause of the traffic mess is the people themselves so it's only right that those causing the traffic problem should be fined and the fine should hurt. That way, the fines will pay for the cost of enforcing the law. The fines should start at P500 and goes up every week if you don't pay it within 15 days. To enforce this and prevent people from ignoring the fine. It will be tied to their driver's license or car registr...

The Reason For The Traffic in Metro Manila

Image
Do you know why traffic is always so bad in Metro Manila? Here's why. (photos courtesy of their respective owners) And the MMDA would rather double the number of days to ban private vehicles from going on the road with their color coding schemes. I wonder how much more stupid the MMDA can be. The problem with the traffic is discipline and not private vehicles. Every driver, whether public or private have no discipline. But it's worst when public vehicles do it because they block the whole road trying to get passengers whereas private vehicles keep going to their destination. If the MMDA wants to solve the traffic in Metro Manila they should do the following: Reduce the number of buses. Use smaller buses. Make it a requirement for every driver of a public utility vehicle to undergo driver training and road courtesy with an exam before they can take to the streets. Standardize all the road signs and road lane in the whole country. Set up designated PUV...

Would You Follow The Rules If the Enforcers Don't Follow Them?

Image
This is a video taken by a friend. How would you expect the motorists to follow the rules if the enforcers themselves don't follow them? Look at how these MMDA enforcers are riding on the back of the truck. Sorry, not riding, hanging.

The Saturnino Fabros Incident

Image
From a Facebook post regarding the motorist who mauled an MMDA enforcer . According to Robert Blair Carabuena's cousin, the MMDA smashed his car while saying "Putang ina mo" (Son of a b*tch) that provoked the anger of Mr. Carabuena. The lady said: "If MMDA wanted to gain respect. They should start by respecting motorists." According to his LinkedIn profile, Robert Blair Carabuena graduated at ADMU with a degree in psychology. Based on that video, he puts the psycho in psychology. When the video of him mauling a traffic enforcer went viral, Robert Blair Carabuena, who’s also on Twitter decided to protect his tweets by making changes in the settings. No word yet on whether or not there will be changes in his behavior. The motorist who manhandled an MMDA traffic enforcer has deleted/deactivated his Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn accounts. Now it’s green urinals for the ladies

From the Philippine Daily Inquirer . =================== MANILA, Philippines--Three public toilets are now open 24 hours daily along the Edsa strip for female commuters and pedestrians. Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chair Oscar Inocentes led agency officials at the “soft opening” of the new structures Friday. One urinal is located underneath the Edsa-Ortigas flyover while two toilets adjacent to each other are near the Quezon Avenue station of Metro Rail Transit and a provincial bus stop at the intersection of Quezon Avenue and Edsa. Painted apple green, the urinals are not quite like the pink urinals for males installed during the time of MMDA Chair Bayani Fernando. With a floor area of 3x5 feet, the cubicles have concrete walls and green translucent roofs to allow the entry of natural light during the day. Inocentes said the toilet can accommodate only one person to prevent robbers and criminal elements from preying on women. Each urinal has a ...

The Pinking of Metro Manila

Image
"I love pink, pink makes things pretty. Only a real man, a macho gwapo man can wear pink with pride. I'm macho and gwapo and I'm in charge of Metro Manila so I'm not afraid to make people know I'm man enough to use pink. That is why I put pink in everything. I put fences to separate the lanes since drivers are too stubborn to follow the lanes. But I paint them pink so they know I did it. Who cares if it's not visible at night? I don't care about safety as long as people know I did it so they will remember me when I run for President. I put pink on the pedestrian overpasses, so they will know that the MMDA is responsible for it. I put pink on the sidewalk, so people will know where the sidewalk starts and where it ends because they're too dumb to know what is a sidewalk. I put Metro Gwapo logos everywhere since I'm in charge of Metro Manila and I'm gwapo. I want Metro Manila to be gwapo like me. Besides, it's not my money I'm spending. An...

MMDA suspends number coding for a week

From the Philippine Daily Inquirer . MMDA is suspending the number coding starting Monday to Friday. MMDA chair Bayani Fernando said the one-week suspension should enable the national and local government to rescue and provide relief to affected areas. What the heck? Are emergency vehicles affected by number coding too? I say eliminate the number coding for good!

Manila Traffic

Image
Can someone please explain to me why the traffic in Manila can't be solve? Yes, driver's don't follow rules. Yes, there's too many cars. Yes, the PUVs don't have discipline. For all the things that the MMDA has done, traffic still sucks. I don't even know why they put color coding in place. It just doubled the number of cars since most people who can afford a car bought another one to get away from color coding. But it seems to me, it's quite easy to solve the traffic problem if they would only use some common sense. Check out this photo. Why is the tricycle in the left-most lane? It's not only that, the bikes, calesas and pedicabs use this lane. Isn't the left lane supposed to be for turning and for fast vehicles? Seems to me if they put a lane on the right for slow vehicles and PUVs to stop. So the other vehicles on the middle and the left lane can keep going at the What about this? Why do these people keep going when it's already stop? Not...
