3 Cost Effective Ways to Solve Metro Manila's Traffic Problem

Image
The Facebook page of ANC 24/7 is asking for its reader's suggestion on how to solve Metro Manila's traffic problem. This got me thinking, "what is the best way to solve Metro Manila's traffic problem?" It's easy to make suggestions, what's hard is the implementation and the cost of implementation. So what is the the best way to solve Metro Manila's traffic problem and the most cost effective solution? Punitive Fines Add caption First of all, any implementation will definitely cost money, a lot of money. The cause of the traffic mess is the people themselves so it's only right that those causing the traffic problem should be fined and the fine should hurt. That way, the fines will pay for the cost of enforcing the law. The fines should start at P500 and goes up every week if you don't pay it within 15 days. To enforce this and prevent people from ignoring the fine. It will be tied to their driver's license or car registr...

iPhone 4

Image
The new iPhone 4 has been announced today at Apple's WWDC conference. New features includes Retina display which quadruples the pixel count of previous iPhones making images and text sharper. Multitasking is finally available. Perhaps the most interesting feature for me is the new 5 megapixel camera. I know a 5 megapixel camera on a phone is not new. But Apple is usually behind in terms of integrating new technology into their devices. What Apple does is they do it better. The new camera has backside illumination that takes better pictures even in low light. The problem with most camera phones is that the sensors are so small, low light quality usually sucks. I haven't seen how the iPhone 4 camera works yet, but it would be interesting to see if it really does work really well. That means there's no need to bring a point and shoot camera anymore if you have the iPhone. The iPhone 4 also includes a LED flash and a forward facing camera. The camera also takes 720p HD video ca...

11-Year-Old Writes iPhone App, Donates Proceeds to Charity

Saw this article on Treehugger.com . An 11 year old boy--one who received medical care from UCLA's Medical Center and Orthopedic Hospital--has created an iPhone app benefiting children still under the facility's care. Last year, Cameron had fallen ill and was unable to participate in his usual round of physical activities. While held up, he became overly interested in computer programming. He started reading anything he could get his hands on. He even took lessons from Stanford at Apple's iTunes U. Amazingly, he ended up teaching himself quite a few different programming languages. His studies eventually zeroed in on Apple's iPhone and iPod Touch. And after tinkering with a few different creations, he completed a painting/drawing program called iSketch. The app was approved by Apple back in December and is now for sale. Amazing what kids can do! Full story here .

Apple Answers the FCC’s Questions

The ongoing controversy about the Apple iPhone, App store and the rejection of Google Voice has brought a lot of bad press to Apple. Apple is also being investigated by the FCC. Today, Apple has put out a press release answering questions from the FCC. Here some summary of the answers based on the FCC questions. 1. Google Voice wasn't rejected. It just hasn't been approved yet. It's still under review because it changes the whole interface for calling which Apple has worked very hard to make. 2. AT&T has not decision whatsoever in approving or rejecting iPhone apps. 3. Apple alone makes the final decision on approving or rejecting iPhone apps. 4. Apple does not know if Google Voice has VOIP. But it has already approved several other VOIP apps like Skype, Nimbuzz and iCall. 5. Some other applications that has been rejected: Twittelator - Rejected at first because of crashed, later approved once fixed. iLoveWifi - Rejected because using undocumented application protocol. ...

AT&T Response to FCC Regarding iPhone

Here is a summary of AT&T's response to the FCC regarding the iPhone. WASHINGTON, DC – On July 31, 2009, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) issued letters to Apple, AT&T and Google with a series of questions about the Google Voice app and Apple’s App Store approval process. AT&T today responded to the questions raised in the FCC’s Wireless Telecommunications Bureau letter. The following statement may be attributed to Jim Cicconi, AT&T senior executive vice president, external and legislative affairs: “We appreciate the opportunity to clear up misconceptions related to an application Google submitted to Apple for inclusion in the Apple App Store. We fully support the FCC’s goal of getting the facts and data necessary to inform its policymaking. “To that end, let me state unequivocally, AT&T had no role in any decision by Apple to not accept the Google Voice application for inclusion in the Apple App Store. AT&T was not asked about the matter by Apple...

Presenting the iPhone! The real iPhone

Image
It's finally here, the much anticipated new products from Apple. At MacWorld Exp0 2007, Steve Jobs who normally presents several products did something unexpected. He only presented two products. The first product was the Apple TV or what he called the iTV last year. The Apple TV is a media hub for your digital life, it connects to your TV via HDMI or Component Video and can stream photos, movies and songs from your Mac or PC. It includes a 40Gb HD so you can store content on it as well. It syncs with iTunes so you can view your TV shows, movies and music and play it on your big screen TV. It has a 10/100Base-T ethernet port for wired connectivity as well as a 802.11 wireless capability. By the way, did I mention it's an 802.11n? Here's a photo of the device. Here's the link from Apple. Of course, what would MacWorld be without a new and exciting product. What else would be more exciting than the much anticipated iPhone? Steve Jobs doesn't disappoint! Let's see...
