3 Cost Effective Ways to Solve Metro Manila's Traffic Problem

Image
The Facebook page of ANC 24/7 is asking for its reader's suggestion on how to solve Metro Manila's traffic problem. This got me thinking, "what is the best way to solve Metro Manila's traffic problem?" It's easy to make suggestions, what's hard is the implementation and the cost of implementation. So what is the the best way to solve Metro Manila's traffic problem and the most cost effective solution? Punitive Fines Add caption First of all, any implementation will definitely cost money, a lot of money. The cause of the traffic mess is the people themselves so it's only right that those causing the traffic problem should be fined and the fine should hurt. That way, the fines will pay for the cost of enforcing the law. The fines should start at P500 and goes up every week if you don't pay it within 15 days. To enforce this and prevent people from ignoring the fine. It will be tied to their driver's license or car registr...

WBO: Pacquiao defeated Bradley

From Philstar . MANILA, Philippines - The World Boxing Organization (WBO) ruled Wednesday that Filipino boxer Manny Pacquiao should have won his controversial bout against American fighter Timothy Bradley and recommended a rematch. Bradley won a split decision at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on June 9 that prompted disbelief from the sporting world and had many calling the outcome corrupt. The WBO met with five international judges to evaluate video of the match and they unanimously scored the fight in favor of Pacquiao, though they do not have the power to overturn the initial ruling and the result will stand. Pacquiao has indicated that he would prefer a rematch to Bradley forfeiting the belt, according to Bob Arum, the promoter for both fighters. Pacquiao said he will not accept the WBO welterweight crown from Bradley if the American gives it back to him after the five WBO judges who re-scored the controversial fight had the Filipino winning by a mile. “Kung ibigay naman n...

WBO to review Pacquiao-Bradley title bout

From USA Today . LAS VEGAS – One of boxing's major sanctioning bodies will review Timothy Bradley's controversial split decision victory over Manny Pacquiao, the first step toward what promoter Bob Arum hopes will be "clarity" in the judging of the fight. WBO President Francisco "Paco" Valcarcel said in a statement Wednesday that the WBO's championship committee will review video of the fight with five "recognized international judges" and make a recommendation. He said the WBO does not doubt the ability of the scoring judges. Most reporters seated ringside and the vast majority of fans inside the MGM Grand arena on Saturday night thought Pacquiao had easily defended his welterweight title against Bradley. The first surprise came when ring announcer Michael Buffer announced that there was a split decision, and the biggest surprise came in the reading of the scores. Jerry Roth had it 115-113 for Pacquiao, while judges Duane Ford and C.J. R...

Bradley-Pacquiao decision leaves boxing reeling

From USA Today . LAS VEGAS – The outrage over the split-decision upset victory for Timothy Bradley against champion Manny Pacquiao reached a fever pitch Sunday, with many in the boxing world seeking reform in the judging system and promoter Bob Arum calling for an outside investigation. Arum, the 80-year-old chairman of Top Rank Promotions, represents both fighters. "This is an international kind of story. There are people all over the world looking to blame somebody for this," he said. In a decision that sent shock waves through the MGM Grand Garden Arena, Bradley was declared the winner by split decision. Judges CJ Ross and Duane Ford scored it 115-113 for Bradley, while Jerry Roth had it 115-113 for Pacquiao. Ross has limited experience, while Ford and Roth are veterans of big Las Vegas fights. The decision resulted in boos raining down toward the ring, where HBO's Max Kellerman was trying to interview Pacquiao and Bradley. Arum says "The conspiracy theo...

Bob Arum Worried About Manny Pacquiao's Mental State: Fan Reaction

From Yahoo! Sports . Given the multiple problems WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao has had to deal with ever since his November victory against Juan Manuel Marquez (backlash after the controversial decision, legal problems in the Philippines, and few problems with his camp), many boxing fans are worried about his mental state going into his June 9 bout against undefeated Timothy Bradley. Even Pacquiao's promoter, Bob Arum, is concerned about the WBO welterweight champs' current mental state, and he shared his thoughts during the premier episode of HBO's "The Fight Game with Jim Lampley." "Bradley is a terrific fighter," Arum said. "He's undefeated. He poses a tremendous challenge for Manny Pacquiao. And my problem is what Pacquiao are we going to see? You have to understand, since the last fight last November, he has become a totally different person. He's super religious. He does bible study every night. Sometimes I get the imp...

Disappointing Win

From the Inquirer . If you want to say Manny’s diminished by this, go ahead,” said fight organizer Bob Arum testily, following the latest Las Vegas slugfest between Manny Pacquiao and Mexican challenger Juan Manuel Marquez that resulted in the most controversial win ever to go the Filipino champ’s way. Arum has an interest in keeping the animosity alive and raging between the Pacquiao and Marquez camps. A fourth fight between the two would surely rake in more millions of dollars for the boxing impresario, and would probably lead to the Holy Grail of world professional boxing today: that elusive dream match between Pacquiao and the only remaining fighter in the planet to perhaps equal (or at least noisily lay claim to) his stature as the greatest pound-for-pound boxer of his time: Floyd Mayweather Jr. Oscar De La Hoya, too, thinks Pacquiao owes it to his fans worldwide to finally face Mayweather in the ring, however differently his promoters and handlers might feel about the match. ...
