3 Cost Effective Ways to Solve Metro Manila's Traffic Problem

Image
The Facebook page of ANC 24/7 is asking for its reader's suggestion on how to solve Metro Manila's traffic problem. This got me thinking, "what is the best way to solve Metro Manila's traffic problem?" It's easy to make suggestions, what's hard is the implementation and the cost of implementation. So what is the the best way to solve Metro Manila's traffic problem and the most cost effective solution? Punitive Fines Add caption First of all, any implementation will definitely cost money, a lot of money. The cause of the traffic mess is the people themselves so it's only right that those causing the traffic problem should be fined and the fine should hurt. That way, the fines will pay for the cost of enforcing the law. The fines should start at P500 and goes up every week if you don't pay it within 15 days. To enforce this and prevent people from ignoring the fine. It will be tied to their driver's license or car registr...

The Marcos Years - History of the EDSA Revolution from the perspective of Roberto V. Ongpin

Image
I found this interesting article from the Inquirer regarding the Marcos years leading to the EDSA revolution from the perspective of Roberto V. Ongpin who was Marcos' Minister of Trade and Industry. It's an interesting look at Philippine political history. Here's an excerpt. When the phone rang one day in May 1979, he was not to know that he would be caught in one of the most tumultuous chapters in Philippine history. “Do you know what time it is in London?” Roberto V. Ongpin said, the drowsiness evident in his voice. “It is 4 a.m.” “Bobby, the President wants to talk to you,” said the voice at the other end, half a world away in Malacañang. It was Ruben Ancheta, an aide to President Ferdinand Marcos. “Pare, please, give me two hours,” Ongpin said. “All right. I will tell him,” Ancheta said. Ongpin told the story of how he was conscripted by Marcos in an interview with the Inquirer at his penthouse office in the Alphaland Southgate Tower, a shopping mall an...

Criminal Activity along EDSA

Got this info from a friend. ================== Guys please be careful when travelling along EDSA, an incident happened to me and to fellow motorists this morning in the EDSA: Guadalupe Northbound lanes. I am pasting an excerpt from my email to PNP's Highway Patrol Group as I've tried numerous times to contact them thru 117 and thru their local numbers but no one answers: "the EDSA-Guadalupe area today: April 26, 2011 @ 11:00AM. During the rush hour traffic jam along EDSA Northbound, there were four teenagers that came from the MRT Guadalupe Station and started running alongside the motor vehicles stuck in crawling traffic and tried to open the doors of these vehicles including mine. A taxi in front of me was victimized and they tried to pull out the driver and ended up running off with things that they were able to get. I tried calling 117, Philippine National Police’s hotline while this was happening and no one was answering! Even after numerous trials to contact a...

After The Rain

Image
It was raining the whole week I was in Manila. As usual, once it rains, we get floods and potholes everywhere. What else is new? Normally, when I drive in Manila. I'm cursing all the time because of the traffic and the potholes. Instead, I resolved not to do that this time and just take photos as a way to vent out my frustrations. Here are some photos I took. This is Rizal Avenue I believe. This is C-3? Or whatever that big road is along Rizal Avenue under the LRT Station. That's actually a small pothole. Just before that it was a crater like the moon. I couldn't take a photo because the whole vehicle was tilting left and right as we drove through it. Traffice was on a virtual standstill because everybody has to slow down through those potholes. This is along B. Serrano I think. I though the Mayor of Caloocan says that "Echiverri Nice City". No it's not! I wasn't a nice city when Asistio was mayor, it wans't a nice city when Malonzo was mayor, it cert...
