3 Cost Effective Ways to Solve Metro Manila's Traffic Problem

Image
The Facebook page of ANC 24/7 is asking for its reader's suggestion on how to solve Metro Manila's traffic problem. This got me thinking, "what is the best way to solve Metro Manila's traffic problem?" It's easy to make suggestions, what's hard is the implementation and the cost of implementation. So what is the the best way to solve Metro Manila's traffic problem and the most cost effective solution? Punitive Fines Add caption First of all, any implementation will definitely cost money, a lot of money. The cause of the traffic mess is the people themselves so it's only right that those causing the traffic problem should be fined and the fine should hurt. That way, the fines will pay for the cost of enforcing the law. The fines should start at P500 and goes up every week if you don't pay it within 15 days. To enforce this and prevent people from ignoring the fine. It will be tied to their driver's license or car registr...

Sports Illustrated Kid of The Year 2012

Image
The 2012 Sports Illustrated Kids SportsKids of the Year, brothers Conner and Cayden Long, were honored at a star-studded event in New York City last night. The Long brothers were part of the Sports Illustrated Sportsman of the Year ceremony that recognized Miami Heat star LeBron James. Celebrities such as Jay-Z, Beyoncé, and Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski were also in attendance, and everyone there was impressed by Conner's and Cayden's accomplishments. Cayden, suffers from cerebral palsy, but Conner doesn't let that stop him from playing sports with his brother. The two compete in triathlons together, with Conner towing Cayden behind in a raft during the swimming leg, towing him behind his bike during the cycling portion, and pushing him during the run. Triathlons have been a great way for the brothers to come together and have made them an inspiration to everyone that hears their story. After hearing their story at the Sportsman ceremony, Coach K said that Conner and Cay...

Taiwan Olympic quest costs $103M

From ABS-CBN News . TAIWAN – The Taiwanese government is using 90 percent of its revenues from lottery games to put up what is conceivably the biggest budget ever in its quest for Olympic fame, hoping it could improve on its four-bronze medal finish in the Beijing 2008 Olympics with its participation in the London Olympics and beyond. This island state of 23 million just north of Batanes has earmarked NT 4.3B (roughly US$103 million) – NT 2.1 billion of which comes from national funds – to bankroll a one-and-a-half year program that includes recruitment, selection, training and actual participation of the final list of players, including those of the Paralympic Games which takes place after the regular Olympics. The program, which includes 26 of the 28 Olympic sports minus baseball and basketball, has produced a final roster of 42 athletes who have qualified from 14 sports for the Olympic Games slated July 27-Aug. 13 in London. The training expenses include regular monthly allo...

Sipa

Image
When I was in school, we were taught that Sipa is the national sports of the Philippines. We used to play that a lot during recess and after school hitting a metal washer with thick strands of threads. Here's a video how we used to play it. The actual national sport consist of two or four players on each side of a net kicking a rattan ball. It's also called Sepak Takraw in other parts of Southeast Asia. Here's what it looks like. This is what the ball looks like. It's unfortunate that the Philippine sports authorities have never really embraced this sports preferring to promote basketball and pretty much only basketball. There are a lot of sports Filipinos can excel in but they can't because of lack of funding and promotion. In 2007, Senator Francis “Chiz” Escudero Tuesday urged the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) and Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) to consider the revival of the Philippine National Games (PNG). But I don't think anythi...
