3 Cost Effective Ways to Solve Metro Manila's Traffic Problem

Image
The Facebook page of ANC 24/7 is asking for its reader's suggestion on how to solve Metro Manila's traffic problem. This got me thinking, "what is the best way to solve Metro Manila's traffic problem?" It's easy to make suggestions, what's hard is the implementation and the cost of implementation. So what is the the best way to solve Metro Manila's traffic problem and the most cost effective solution? Punitive Fines Add caption First of all, any implementation will definitely cost money, a lot of money. The cause of the traffic mess is the people themselves so it's only right that those causing the traffic problem should be fined and the fine should hurt. That way, the fines will pay for the cost of enforcing the law. The fines should start at P500 and goes up every week if you don't pay it within 15 days. To enforce this and prevent people from ignoring the fine. It will be tied to their driver's license or car registr...

Tacloban Mayor Alfredo Romualdez Blast Mar Roxas and President Aquino

Image
MANILA -Tacloban Mayor Alfred Romualdez on Monday criticized President Aquino and Interior and Local Government Secretary Mar Roxas for engaging in partisan politics immediately after super typhoon Yolanda ravaged his city. Romualdez said the national government ignored his request to augment the police force. He, however, confirmed that the Philippine National Police sent Special Action Forces elements to the city. He also said he had “difficulty communicating” with the national government officials because “there were things asked of us.” “They wanted an ordinance immediately for a curfew. And I said: it is difficult to have an ordinance for a curfew because we have no fiscal’s office, no court. If these people violate the curfew and be arrested, how can they post bail? Why don’t we just have checkpoints? And this went on and on, and yet every day. We were meeting every day, every morning. I could not understand why we could not get that support,” he said. He said that in on...

Roxas, Sanchez scrap wedding reception

From the Philippine Daily Inquirer . Sen. Mar Roxas and fiancée Korina Sanchez have decided to scrap their mammoth wedding reception at Araneta Coliseum in Cubao, Quezon City, on Oct. 27, in light of the recent calamities. The P3 million they would have spent on the reception will instead be donated to various relief operations such as Sagip Kapamilya of ABS-CBN where Sanchez is a broadcaster, Kapuso Foundation of GMA 7, Caritas Manila and Philippine National Red Cross. Good call. More power to them for being mindful of others and not spend lavishly while the country is still recovering from the effects of Typhoon Ondoy and Pepeng. At least they have delicadeza unlike some other people.

Korina Sanchez on Mar Roxas' Detractors

Just read this article in the Philippine Daily Inquirer on Korina Sanchez lashing out at critics of Sen. Mar Roxas . She got angry at Conrado de Quiros for saying some candidates are " atat na atat " and she took it personally. She also got angry at Sen. Francisco " Kiko " Pangilinan for asking Sen. Mar Roxas to give way to Noynoy Aquino who she said owed her big time. Conrado de Quiros said that he wasn't referring to anybody in particular when he said some candiates are " atat na atat ". He also said that Korina Sanchez's behavior is part of her personality. Conrado de Quiroes said that if spouses and fiancees of candidates wants to make their presence felt, they should "make it positive". Don’t be intrusive because it ruins things. If you are going to be more assertive, might as well do it in a positive side.” Korina Sanchez said that now that Sen. Mar Roxas has given up on his presidential aspiration, they can now c...

Bending Rules for Success Only in RP

I read this article in the Philippine Daily Inquirer about Sen. Mar Roxas doing a town hall meeting. He spoke about the evils of corruption and the importance of sticking to rules in order to get ahead in life—except that in the Philippines, bending the rules is what seems to guarantee success. He was talking about how his grandmother was teaching him how to cook rice when he was young and that to cook good rice, you should follow the rule on how much water to put in. He said that following a set of rules in society should produce similarly good results. “That’s how society develops … If you follow the rules, you’d get ahead in life. But in our country, if you follow the rules, you’re at a disadvantage.” he said. That's funny. So I guess the reason he is doing pre-election campaigning and informercials is because he doesn't want to be at a disadvantage? Sure...he hasn't filed for his candidacy. Sure...he isn't campaigning early, just giving out info for the public. Sur...
