3 Cost Effective Ways to Solve Metro Manila's Traffic Problem

Image
The Facebook page of ANC 24/7 is asking for its reader's suggestion on how to solve Metro Manila's traffic problem. This got me thinking, "what is the best way to solve Metro Manila's traffic problem?" It's easy to make suggestions, what's hard is the implementation and the cost of implementation. So what is the the best way to solve Metro Manila's traffic problem and the most cost effective solution? Punitive Fines Add caption First of all, any implementation will definitely cost money, a lot of money. The cause of the traffic mess is the people themselves so it's only right that those causing the traffic problem should be fined and the fine should hurt. That way, the fines will pay for the cost of enforcing the law. The fines should start at P500 and goes up every week if you don't pay it within 15 days. To enforce this and prevent people from ignoring the fine. It will be tied to their driver's license or car registr...

La Salle Graduate Will Be First Filipino To Fly Into Space

Image
From Rappler.com MANILA, Philippines – From more than 28,000 aspiring astronauts in the Philippines, down to 400, then 50, and finally down to the top 3, one man has emerged victorious: 22-year-old Chino Roque, the first Filipino to go to space. “Right now I’m very happy that a lot of people have been showing me their love and support. I feel so blessed and grateful to all of them,” says Chino, who spoke to Rappler through Skype just a few hours after his announcement as winner. The 22-year-old psychology graduate from De La Salle Manila will be one of 22 individuals who'll travel to space in 2014. But his journey wasn't exactly smooth sailing. Twist of fate In the beginning, the fitness coach and psychology graduate wasn’t even supposed to go to space camp. On the final day of challenges in August, two men were left standing: Evan Rey Datuin from Dasmariñas, Cavite and Mario Mendoza Jr. from Taytay, Rizal. Chino placed fifth. A third winner, Ramil Santos, would la...

Mars Curiosity Descent - Ultra HD

Image
If you were blown away by the video of the descent of the Mars Curiosity released by NASA, you'll be blown away by this Ultra HD version of the video. This video was interpolated and enhanced. It was created from the original 4 fps video from NASA and expanded to 30fps for smooth animation and plays in real-time at the speed of the descent of the Mars Curiosity. Here's the info from Youtube. Working frame-by-frame, it took me four weeks to produce this video. It was a painstaking labor of love. You can support my efforts with a donation or a message of support. Ultra-resolution, smooth-motion, detail-enhanced, color-corrected, interpolated from the original 4 frames per second to 30 frames per second. This video plays real-time at the speed that Curiosity descended to the surface of Mars on August 6, 2012. Share this video with your friends. I think it's wonderful that everyone on Earth has a chance to see this amazing footage from Mars :) Produced by Bard Canni...

Complete MSL Curiosity Descent

In case you didn't know. NASA recently landed the Mars Science Laboratory Curiosity. It's amazing what science can do and I always love the exploration of space. I found this high resolution video of the Curiosity rover's descent to Mars taken by the MARDI descent imager. Watch. Can you believe it? We are actually looking at another planet here.

Sci-fi and Time Travel

I was watching Star Trek:TNG and ST:DS9 last night. Both episodes were about time travel. In Star Trek:TNG, Picard was jumping to the past, present and future. Seeing things that may or may not have happened. In Star Trek:DS9, Chief O'Brien was jumping forward 5 hours into the future and then returning to the present. In both cases, there were some sort of sub-space anomaly that triggered their jump through time. I know these shows are science fiction and it's not real. But it got me thinking. Why is it that in these shows, most time travel happens in space or in another planet? Could it be that time travel happens whenever there is a phenomenon out there in the far reaches of space? From my understanding of physics, time is affected as gravity gets stronger. Such as Einstein's theory that if person A is travelling to the event horizon of a black hole and because of the strong gravitational forces, person A, near the event horizon thinks time is constant, but an observer, p...

Top Gear is one of the best shows ever. If you love cars and have a need for speed, nothing beats this show. It's episodes like this that makes it even better. If you are an adventure junkie, then nothing beats going to the edge of space on a U2 spyplane.
