3 Cost Effective Ways to Solve Metro Manila's Traffic Problem

Image
The Facebook page of ANC 24/7 is asking for its reader's suggestion on how to solve Metro Manila's traffic problem. This got me thinking, "what is the best way to solve Metro Manila's traffic problem?" It's easy to make suggestions, what's hard is the implementation and the cost of implementation. So what is the the best way to solve Metro Manila's traffic problem and the most cost effective solution? Punitive Fines Add caption First of all, any implementation will definitely cost money, a lot of money. The cause of the traffic mess is the people themselves so it's only right that those causing the traffic problem should be fined and the fine should hurt. That way, the fines will pay for the cost of enforcing the law. The fines should start at P500 and goes up every week if you don't pay it within 15 days. To enforce this and prevent people from ignoring the fine. It will be tied to their driver's license or car registr...

The Marcos Years - History of the EDSA Revolution from the perspective of Roberto V. Ongpin

Image
I found this interesting article from the Inquirer regarding the Marcos years leading to the EDSA revolution from the perspective of Roberto V. Ongpin who was Marcos' Minister of Trade and Industry. It's an interesting look at Philippine political history. Here's an excerpt. When the phone rang one day in May 1979, he was not to know that he would be caught in one of the most tumultuous chapters in Philippine history. “Do you know what time it is in London?” Roberto V. Ongpin said, the drowsiness evident in his voice. “It is 4 a.m.” “Bobby, the President wants to talk to you,” said the voice at the other end, half a world away in Malacañang. It was Ruben Ancheta, an aide to President Ferdinand Marcos. “Pare, please, give me two hours,” Ongpin said. “All right. I will tell him,” Ancheta said. Ongpin told the story of how he was conscripted by Marcos in an interview with the Inquirer at his penthouse office in the Alphaland Southgate Tower, a shopping mall an...

Binondo After WW2

Image
Found this on Facebook . Here's the description. Devastation of Binondo after WW2 - the red square marks where Binondo Church is. In the foreground is the Post Office and the bridge leading to Sta Cruz. In the background you see empty land which is probably part of the Lee lumberyards and which is now present day Divisoria / Tondo. Check out the piers too - jutting out to sea in the upper left. Found this in skyscrapercity . Oh, and blame the Americans for bombing everything to pieces instead of going door to door.

Manila, Queen of the Pacific 1938

See how clean and orderly Manila was in the 1930s. Even with Calesas, there's no horse manure on the street. The Calesa drivers even wear nice clothes! Did you see how clean it is? It was better than Singapore at that time. Unfortunately, this will never happen again. Did you see that bottle that kid was drinking milk out of? That's BPA free! Hehehe... The Pasig river was a trade route as well.
