3 Cost Effective Ways to Solve Metro Manila's Traffic Problem

Image
The Facebook page of ANC 24/7 is asking for its reader's suggestion on how to solve Metro Manila's traffic problem. This got me thinking, "what is the best way to solve Metro Manila's traffic problem?" It's easy to make suggestions, what's hard is the implementation and the cost of implementation. So what is the the best way to solve Metro Manila's traffic problem and the most cost effective solution? Punitive Fines Add caption First of all, any implementation will definitely cost money, a lot of money. The cause of the traffic mess is the people themselves so it's only right that those causing the traffic problem should be fined and the fine should hurt. That way, the fines will pay for the cost of enforcing the law. The fines should start at P500 and goes up every week if you don't pay it within 15 days. To enforce this and prevent people from ignoring the fine. It will be tied to their driver's license or car registr...

Have you read this article about the speech by PLDT Chair Manuel V. Pangilinan on the graduation ceremony in Ateneo on March 26 and 27? It was said that portions of the speech was copied from speeches of Barack Obama, J.K. Rowling, Oprah Winfrey and Conan O'Brien. Part of his speech included this line from the graduation speech of Conan O'Brien, "Forty-four years ago, I sat where you now sit. I also thought what you now think: What is going to happen to me? Where can I find a job? Am I really graduating a virgin?" His public relations department did say that Manuel V. Pangilinan uses the services of speechwriters. Even though it was the speechwriters fault, he did take full responsibility for the mistake and sent in a letter to resign being the Chair of the Ateneo board of trustees. The details of the speech was in Facebook but has already been taken down. I don't have the full transcript of the speech. But here's a video of Conan O'Brien's graduatio...

Conan O'Brien talks to Charlie Rose

Here's an interview of Conan O'Brien back in 2006. On part three, Charlie Rose asked Conan whether The Tonight Show was the dream. The last video talks about career and some good advice for young people. This is one of the reasons I like Conan, he's very smart and humble, kind of like your wacky older brother who you can talk to and give you great advice on life. It's the same thing he did on his last show on the Tonight Show where you told his audience not to be cynical.

Leno On Oprah

Jay Leno was interviewed on Oprah and he gave his side of the story about the debacle with NBC and Conan. He was trying to come out the better man but in the interview, I think he just made himself look more like a cry baby. He said that he didn't push Conan O'Brien out of the Tonight Show but that it was Conan who pushed him out first from when NBC made a deal with Conan O'Brien to keep him from jumping to another network. Here's the interview and video . Jay Leno also talked about his interview with Jimmy Kimmel on 10@10 and that Jimmy Kimmel "suckered-punched" him and he decided to take the high road. Here's the video of Jimmy Kimmel's response to that. It looks like my initial thoughts that Conan O'Brien being the better man is dead on.

Conan O'Brien's Last Message To Fans

Here is Conan O'Brien's last message to his fans on his last show at The Tonight Show on January 22, 2010. Listen to the last part of his message as his advice to his fans specially young people. Here's my favorite part of this message: All I ask of you is one thing: please don’t be cynical. I hate cynicism — it’s my least favorite quality and it doesn’t lead anywhere. Nobody in life gets exactly what they thought they were going to get. But if you work really hard and you’re kind, amazing things will happen . He had the chance to say something bad to NBC, but instead he thank them for the 20 years NBC has given him. What a classy guy. Here's a link to the full episode of last night's show.

NBC's late night drama with Jay Leno and Conan O'Brien

The mess that NBC is creating with Jay Leno and Conan O'Brien is becoming gold material for both hosts. Here is one where Conan plays "Deal or No Deal" to decide his next career move. Here's Jimmy Kimmel playing Leno with Chevy Chase as Conan. Here's David Letterman's monologue last Monday. Finally, here's Jay Leno and Conan O'Brien talking about it in their monologue.

Pilobolus

Pilobolus began, in 1971, as an outsider dance company, and quickly became renowned the world over for its imaginative and athletic exploration of creative collaboration. Nearly 40 years later, it has evolved into a pioneering American cultural institution of the 21st century. I saw their dance on Conan and thought I'd share it with everyone.
