3 Cost Effective Ways to Solve Metro Manila's Traffic Problem

Image
The Facebook page of ANC 24/7 is asking for its reader's suggestion on how to solve Metro Manila's traffic problem. This got me thinking, "what is the best way to solve Metro Manila's traffic problem?" It's easy to make suggestions, what's hard is the implementation and the cost of implementation. So what is the the best way to solve Metro Manila's traffic problem and the most cost effective solution? Punitive Fines Add caption First of all, any implementation will definitely cost money, a lot of money. The cause of the traffic mess is the people themselves so it's only right that those causing the traffic problem should be fined and the fine should hurt. That way, the fines will pay for the cost of enforcing the law. The fines should start at P500 and goes up every week if you don't pay it within 15 days. To enforce this and prevent people from ignoring the fine. It will be tied to their driver's license or car registr...

The nine-story commercial-residential building in Divisoria, Manila which has been leaning precariously for days collapsed at around 4:30 p.m. yesterday, but there were no fatalities as authorities had safely evacuated the occupants.

What happened 13 Days After Pacquiao's Fight With Mosley?

Image
If you remember, I posted this before about natural disasters that happen 13 days after a Pacquiao Fight ? Well, this is not exactly 13 days, but Manny Pacquiao fought Shane Mosley on May 7, 2011. On May 26, Typhoon Chedeng entered the Philippines killing 3 people in May! In the middle of summer. We don't usually get typhoons in the Philippines until July. Not only that, just today, over 800 tons of milk fish or bangus died near Taal volcano. Of course, the closest thing that happened on the 13th day could be Manny Pacquiao's support against the RH Bill :) Maybe we should ask Pacquiao to stop fighting for the sake of the country.

2012 The End?

Image
Comet Elenin has arrived and is heading towards earth. It has aligned twice with earth and the sun and on each occasion coincided with one of the most powerful earthquakes in history shifting the earth's axis 8 cm the first time and 25 cm the second. It will pass between earth and the sun later this year. Is it a comet? or a brown dwarf? Here's the date from NASA tracking Comet Elenin . Some say this is not a comet, but actually Nibiru or the twelfth planet or Planet X. It has a highly elliptical orbit around the sun and takes it out way beyond Pluto. It is said that Nibiru takes 3,600 years to complete one orbit and was said to be last seen around 160 BC. Some speculates that Nibiru could actually be the Star of Bethlehem which was seen 2000 years ago. Scary isn't it? I guess only time will tell if this is real.

Will March 19 'Supermoon' Trigger Natural Disasters?

On March 19, the moon will swing around Earth more closely than it has in the past 18 years, lighting up the night sky from just 221,567 miles (356,577 kilometers) away. On top of that, it will be full. And one astrologer believes it could inflict massive damage on the planet. Richard Nolle, a noted astrologer who runs the website astropro.com, has famously termed the upcoming full moon at lunar perigee (the closest approach during its orbit) an "extreme supermoon." When the moon goes super-extreme, Nolle says, chaos will ensue: Huge storms, earthquakes, volcanoes and other natural disasters can be expected to wreak havoc on Earth. (It should be noted that astrology is not a real science, but merely makes connections between astronomical and mystical events.) Full story at Yahoo News .

Learn To Rescue Yourselves

I found this interesting article on the Philippine Star that in certain countries where people have become reliant on rescue groups like "911". They are teaching people to what is called "bystander rescue". Under this setup, laymen are being trained with the assumption that the supposed elite rescue teams are not always helpful in times of disaster. Reigi Cruz, director of the non-government organization Emergency Resource Center Inc., said it was high time that people “learn to be self-reliant and protect themselves.” "Within 72 to 98 hours from the time of impact of a disaster, you only have each other to depend on for help." Cruz told The STAR in an interview. “There’s the mentality that it (disaster) will never happen to me,” Cruz stressed, explaining why the pro-active role of residents in preparing for worst-case scenario has not been so popular in the Philippines. “Everything’s (information) on the Internet and available to the public,” Cruz said. ...
