3 Cost Effective Ways to Solve Metro Manila's Traffic Problem

Image
The Facebook page of ANC 24/7 is asking for its reader's suggestion on how to solve Metro Manila's traffic problem. This got me thinking, "what is the best way to solve Metro Manila's traffic problem?" It's easy to make suggestions, what's hard is the implementation and the cost of implementation. So what is the the best way to solve Metro Manila's traffic problem and the most cost effective solution? Punitive Fines Add caption First of all, any implementation will definitely cost money, a lot of money. The cause of the traffic mess is the people themselves so it's only right that those causing the traffic problem should be fined and the fine should hurt. That way, the fines will pay for the cost of enforcing the law. The fines should start at P500 and goes up every week if you don't pay it within 15 days. To enforce this and prevent people from ignoring the fine. It will be tied to their driver's license or car registr...

In Vegas jail, Mayweather won't see Pacquiao fight

From Yahoo! News . LAS VEGAS (AP) — Floyd Mayweather Jr. won't be able to see rival Manny Pacquiao's pay-per-view fight Saturday night against Timothy Bradley, but he will have time to read his mail. As inmate No. 1363917 at the Clark County jail in Las Vegas, Mayweather doesn't have access to a television, computer or telephone in the small solo jail cell where on Friday he was beginning the second week of a three-month sentence in a domestic violence case. He has been getting lots of mail since someone posted his inmate number and address on Twitter, Las Vegas police Officer Bill Cassell said. Jail mail is screened, and Cassell told The Associated Press that some photos to Mayweather have been confiscated as "inappropriate." "He's gotten some mail and a couple of books. There has been some contraband that has been stopped," Cassell said. He wouldn't describe the photos in detail. Mayweather's lawyers in Las Vegas and his advise...

Nevada judge delays Mayweather jail time until after May bout

(CNN) -- Boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. doesn't have to report to jail on a domestic violence conviction until June, after a Nevada judge acceded Friday to a defense request to push back the date until after a May bout. Last month, the WBO welterweight champion was told to report to jail Friday, spokeswoman Mary Ann Price said at the time on behalf of the court system in Clark County, Nevada. But on Friday, Judge Melissa Saragosa said that reporting date could be delayed so that Mayweather could fight on May 5. "I am going to grant your request based upon the conditions that Mr. Mayweather needs to immediately begin" to meet, Saragosa said, citing the domestic violence counseling that also was part of the sentence. "If he has an unexcused absence from the counseling, he will begin serving the 90 days" immediately. No opponent has been announced for the May 5 date, though the boxer -- who is undefeated in 42 matches -- has suggested that he's open to a mu...

Pacquiao to battle Mayweather–in court

LAS VEGAS, Nevada—Two of boxing’s biggest stars—Filipino ring idol Manny Pacquiao and unbeaten US boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. will fight, after all. But they will have their gloves off and the fight will be in court. US District Judge Larry Hicks on Monday set the stage for the legal joust when he denied a motion by Mayweather to dismiss a defamation suit filed against him and others by boxing’s pound-for-pound king. Hicks ruled the defamation suit can proceed because there is sufficient evidence of malicious acts in accusing Pacquiao of being a dope cheat. Full story at the Philippine Daily Inquirer .

Pacquiao-Clottey rumble gets grand, glitzy kickoff

From the Philippine Daily Inquirer . ================== MANILA, Philippines—Even the fans at the stands won’t be denied seeing the Manny Pacquiao-Joshua Clottey showdown for the World Boxing Organization welterweight crown on March 13 up close. The 5-foot-6 Filipino ring icon and his 5-foot-8 Ghanian challenger will be magnified as 70-footers on the world’s largest high definition television when they battle it out at the $1.2-billion Cowboys’ Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Billionaire Jerry Jones, owner of the Dallas Cowboys and co-promoter of the first boxing bout at the world’s biggest domed stadium, put up a grand kickoff press conference for “The Event” Tuesday in Arlington, with pompom-waving cheerleaders, former boxing champions and former Super Bowl winners in attendance. No wonder, Pacquiao, Clottey and promoter Bob Arum of Top Rank gushed over the 80,000-seat facility that would be reconfigured to accommodate 40,000 fight fans close to the way it was during the lavish ...

Blood feud kills Pacquiao-Mayweather fight

From the Philippine Daily Inquirer . ================== LAS VEGAS, Nevada, United States—Manny Pacquiao will not fight Floyd Mayweather next March because a blood testing stalemate wiped out what could have been the richest fight in boxing history, promoter Bob Arum said Thursday. The planned showdown between Filipino hero Pacquiao, a seven-division world champion, and unbeaten US star Mayweather could have brought each fighter as much as $40 million in a rare Las Vegas mega-fight spectacular. Arum, Pacquiao's promoter, said Mayweather's request to have stricter US Anti-Doping Agency (Usada) testing methods, including possible random blood tests within days of the bout, killed any hope of reaching a deal. "It's over," Arum said. "As far as I'm concerned the fight is over." For boxing fans, it was like a Christmas Eve theft of their favorite gift, a long-awaited showdown between the generation's two recognized pound-for-pound superstars...

Angry Pacquiao strikes back at Mayweathers

From the Philippine Daily Inquirer . =================== A FURIOUS MANNY PACQUIAO lashed back at the Mayweathers and executives of Golden Boy Promotions, who were blaming him for the snafu that sidetracked negotiations for his March 13 megafight with Floyd Jr. “I can’t believe these guys can lie without batting an eyelash and they would even make it appear that I am the culprit for the delay of the fight and saying that I don’t want it to happen,” Pacquiao told Philboxing.com in Filipino. “Liars go to hell. They should be man enough and own up to their words,” added Pacquiao, who showed proof that Mayweather Jr. had accused him of using performance enhancement drugs. Pacquiao, who was named by BoxingScene as its 2009 Fighter of the Year, the third time in four years the Filipino was accorded the honor, said the Mayweathers (Floyd Jr., Floyd Sr. and Roger), had claimed in past interviews that he was into some kind of “roids” (steroids). “It’s all over the Internet. They all w...

Las Vegas, Dallas and New Orleans are the front-runners to host the bout, which is expected to become the highest-grossing boxing match in the sport’s history. Mayweather is No. 2 in most rankings and was No. 1 in nearly all of the polls before he briefly retired in June 2008. Pacquiao is coming off a 12th-round stoppage of Miguel Cotto on Nov. 14 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, a bout in which he won the World Boxing Organization welterweight championship and erased fears that he is not a legitimate welterweight. ======================= Looks to be an exciting m...
