Subway Superman

I read an amazing article on Reuters today.

Wesley Autrey jumped onto an oncoming NYC subway train to cover a teenager, Cameron Hollopeter, who suffered a seizure and fell on the tracks. He covered the teenager and the train was passing just a few centimers over them.

Wesley, a construction worker went to work as normal after the incident. His boss didn't believe his excuse for being late for work until he saw on the Internet what he had done. "You see somebody in distress, you help out", Autrey said with his knitted cap brushed with grease and dirt from the train passing overhead.

For his heroics, he was awarded a Bronze Medallion -- for exceptional citizenship and outstanding achievement by Mayor Michael Bloomberg. Donald Trump also awarded him with $10,000 and he also got two other cheques from undisclosed donors. The Walt Disney Co. gave him and his family a one-week fully paid trip to Disney World and tickets to the Broadway musical "The Lion King".

The New York Film Academy where the teenager is studying awarded Autrey with $5,000 and offered scholarships to his daughters, he was also offered a television show apartment makeover.

"Good things happen when you do good. What better way to start a new year than saving a life?" Autrey said during an interview.

The breakup of KC Concepcion and Piolo Pascual started up the rumors about Piolo Pascual being gay again. Frankly I'm sick and tired of this Piolo and KC news. The other day, I was watching TV Patrol and for that half hour the three major news event was former President Gloria Arroyo house arrest. The disbarment case against Sec. De Lima and the break-up of Piolo and KC. Guess which one had the longest airtime? To tell you the truth, what does it matter if Piolo is gay? Would it make your life better knowing that? Filipinos can be very judgmental about gays. On one hand, they accept them if they're comedians or beauticians. But other than that, they won't accept them and ridicule them. Just read this article on Inquirer.net about Globe complaining that the PLDT and Digitel merger would create a monopoly. PLDT chair Manuel V. Pangilinan on Tuesday hit out at Globe, accusing the Ayala group of monopolistic business practices. “PLDT is not allowed to install phone services inside malls and real estate developments (owned by the Ayala group), despite the clamor from their tenants,” Pangilinan said, noting that Globe was allowed to offer telecom services in these areas. The Ayala group, through its Ayala Land unit, is one of the country’s largest property developers. It operates shopping malls in Metro Manila, Cebu and Pampanga.
